Great way to Ship a Barrel

Hey guys just wanted to share with you a great way that I found to ship a barrel, I used USPS triangle box, they come in eather 24" or 36" in length and there free, I also used what they call swimming pool noodle, it's a foam tube that the kids used to float around on and it's hollow inside, I just sliced the noodle down the side put my barrel right in then inside the triangle box, perfect fit, barrel is very snug and secure, I was able to ship priority from Michigan to South Carolina a heavy 24" barrel for just over $12 I hope you find the info useful,

foam pipe insulation works good too,AND it's already sliced, just see which ones cheaper.

It is less stressful to go to the hardware store for pipe insulation than going to WalMart looking for pool noodles. Besides, you won't be able to find pool noodles at WM in the winter time.

Pool noodles are always on sale at academy. And the main thing is they fit the box the op was talking about where pipe insulation doesnt

Its a good idea but its thin. To get one big enough to fill the box up tight it would have about a 6” inside dia

Alright,pool noodles aren't that much different in size from foam for 1" pipe, that's the ones I've seen. I haven't seen the boxes your talking about. What's left of the foam insulation
could be used as filler, or sabotage the other person and pack the rest with packing peanuts, I hate them things they go everywhere.

Are these available at most every Post Office? I have looked in the past and don't recall ever seeing something like this. I hope to grab a couple on my next trip to the post office. Great suggestion!

The pool noodle I'm talking about is about 4" 4.5" in diameter, (can't give an exact now I'm at the shop), with a 1" center hole, the triangle boxes are usually behind the P.O. counter and are something you have to ask for, the noodle will fill the box perfectly nothing else is needed.

Just dont use UPS with a round tube. They charge extra for that.

The pool noodles fit perfectly and I always seem to have some laying around the garage.
I use three pieces about 4 inches long, one on each end and one in the middle. I put several layers of cardboard over the ends to protect from dropping and keep the foam in place. The middle one is to keep the cardboard from collapsing from handling. Cheap, boxes are free, and tracking is provided and insurance available. Some stocks will fit in these boxes too.

Be careful which way you fold the box, as they're reversible. One way is priority mail and more expensive.

I went into a UPS store just last week to ship a barrel to a member here. The lady (pink/blue hair) ask me what I was shipping. I said a barrel for a firearm. She almost passed out. She looked at the female manager and said "we dont ship gun parts do we" the manager said "No we dont". I said I see UPS delivering firearms all the time at gun shops. I actually thought they were going to panic and call authorities. I just walked out.

I honestly never thought it would be a issue.
