Great F-Class Video!!! Thanks Mr. Shiraz!

Sorry for starting the debate again. Not my intention. I just couldn't get my rifle to shoot good with free recoil. Again, I don't want to turn this awesome video and great learning tools into something bitter and ruin it. From now on ill just pm when I have questions like that. Again, great video!

Josh - No, please don't worry about it!

The point of doing the video was to help people understand and bring more people into the sport, and this is a good forum for it. Obviously there are some raw nerves about "heated discussions" in the past regarding free recoil etc. I might have to go read them (or not) since I did not participate in them and was unaware that it was so sensitive. The point being that we need to focus on the positive aspects of the things we all love doing - shooting. FYI - I know Erik C. very well and he is a good guy! (That will cost you a dinner in Raton, Erik :) )

To clarify on the shooting technique you asked about, I have a good amount of cheek pressure on the cheek piece in the video, but the thing to remember is that the cheek weld should be consistent every shot. Inconsistent pressure will create verticals. Same thing with the pressure against the butt pad. I have a different technique on holding and gripping my 7mm guns versus the .300 WSM big boomer.

Clearly consistency (including a consistent cheek weld) is not an issue for you Shiraz... :-)

So, yes, I've noticed you shooting that .300 WSM to pretty good effect... how is the recoil vs. that .284 Shehane you are shooting in the video? How does it wear on you over the course of a full match?

JC - Imagine two people standing over you. Every time you take a shot one guy whacks you on the head with a baseball bat (that's the .300 big bang effect). The second guy stomps on your shoulder with his rough soled, steel-toed boot (that's the kick). Other than that the .300 is easy to work with :)

Seriously, though, with the .300 I think the match adrenaline keeps me going during the day, but when I get back to the hotel room I cannot even lift my arm up, and after that its Ibuprofen city. By contrast the .284 Shehane is very pleasant to work with and has very decent performance. A lot less recoil and deadly accurate.

I would love the same thing except with a running wind commentary - love to know how the original wind assessment was made etc etc...maybe it was all mirage...but at one point he nearly went to favour left even though mirage was still right (if I recall correctly).

Very cool video - the video plus Erik's and Shiraz explanations have been interesting.

When's the book coming out? ;)

6BRinNZ,
The reason the coach went left even though it was a right wind/mirage is because the guns no wind zero is off by about 1/4 MOA in my opinion, which is very close and definetly something the coach can work with.

If you ever get to see Mid Tompkins call wind he will freak you out, because the wind will be coming from the right about 15 MPH, but he will have his shooters holding left of target and shooting 10's and X's. I think he does this so people don't dope off of him.

Shiraz, great video? Couple questions, how do you know what a miss is scored? you don't shoot them. Next ?, Who puts you name on the rifle?, 3rd ?, What color did you paint your previously nice rest? Brass looks better than that. At least go red white & blue. Or did you loose a bet and that was the penalty? For everyone else's info, his power comes not from the moustache but from the hat. Everybody knows that!

I had to go watch the video so I could see the color on his rest. I'm surprised I didn't catch that the first time! LOL

Eric, you don't shoot one of those really good rests do you! Mine looks a LOT better. More brass, less girly. I will probably bring my cowboy hat down to Raton for the big sun. Can't shoot with it but will wear it otherwise to hide out of the sun. Two weeks of that for a Wisconsin boy used to clouds and I would look like a raisin. By the way, I just made some barrels for you, are they gonna shoot! Just a little off center, rifling is skipped and I Lapped them with sand out of Winnequah pits! Should be awesome, good luck with them!

Yeah, I got them. They shoot just like expected. ;)

I know Eric, That's why your so awesome. You could make a barrel I built shoot well. FYI for all other readers, I do NOT work on their barrels so you are all safe. This was just for fun.

Hey Bob and Erik - stop giving me crap about the color of the rest! It isn't pink - it's fashionable "purple" I have several of Bob Pastor's rests in various configurations and he called me up after seeing the video and said "tell me you did not anodize my rest pink" hahahahaha

On that particular rest Bob Pastor (nasty viper) had made all the parts in polished aluminum and I sent them out for anodizing. I have several of his brass knobs etc on other rests, he does an incredible job! We made all the windage tops for these rests ourselves here at Grizzly.

Bob - the miss scoring is shown on the video. I finish all my own stocks and inlayed my name in mother of pearl myself.

Shiraz, I wasn't giving you crap about the color of your rest. Personally, I would be pretty happy if you showed up to the Worlds dressed in they color from head to toe! ;D

I decided to bump this excellent work back into view. Mr Shiraz did you have some wind dialed in the scope? The flags look stronger than you were holding.

A few questions about your .300 WSM. [br]
What is the total weight? What velocity for your 215 Hybrids? [br]
I'm shooting 230 Hybrids at 2947 from 34" and the rifle weighs 21.75 pounds. It moves around a bit but doesn't hurt or cause me any soreness. I don't use the cheek piece and the rifle recoils pretty straight, abeit with a fair amount of torque. Just interested to compare the two. Thanks.

Hi Steve,

You running the 230s at 2947? Holy cow! You have no excuse - you should have the Worlds in your pocket. Better go out and buy a few cases of champagne :).

I am running the 215s at around 2930, maybe a little faster in 80 + degrees. The ballistics are pretty close to the 7SRAUM/WSMs at 2975ish with the 180 Hybrids. I went to the .30 due to better barrel life. Its weird, the straight .284 and Shehane have a good barrel life, and then the life goes South with the 7 magnums, but better with the .30 magnums. All my long range guns are in the 21.75 lb range.

Shiraz, [br]
There is no free lunch. The ballistics are good but the wind still moves them. ;) [br]
My load is 68.7 IMR 7828 SSC, 230s seated 3.260 OAL with a .016" jump. It is a full pressure load but primer pockets are tight after four firings in Norma brass. The 34" barrel may be good for ~30 fps over 32". I decided on 34" to put more weight out front and help tracking. Velocity is just a bonus.
