Great afternoon deer hunt

Oldest son got these yesterday afternoon here on the farm while on his deer stand. We have a rule here on the farm, coyotes take priority over deer 24/7. He let them get in the middle of a 200 acre cow pasture before opening up on them... JohnIMG_6168.jpg

Hey Fellers, Need to straighten out the story, wife has been under the weather and I was not with the boys yesterday afternoon as I was helping her. Got a text with the picture and knowing where his stand is ASSUMED that's how he pulled it off. Actually, one dog came out in the far corner 297yds from him out a pine plantation, he ranged him and with his 6.5 saum dropped him, about a minute later another came out. This one trotted over to his buddy and sat down, he did not get up. Son feeling quite proud of himself set his rifle down and texted his son what had happened, as he was texting the third dog came out and headed over to his friends, he also did not leave. Son sets his rifle back down (empty by now) and started to finish his texting when the 4th dog comes out and heads over to his buddies, son has to find his shell box, dig out another round load his rifle and get on the fourth dog. they all died within inches of each other. I ask him how long he sat there waiting for another one, he said about 15 minutes. That as Paul Harvey use to say, is the rest of the story. I was proud of him anyway......John

As shared elsewhere about a cherished Hunting Companion, Joe, with whom I hunted for 35 years along with his Son, one of my Partners in Law Enforcement.
Joe passed about 5 years ago, and he bequeathed his Rifle to me to carry forth the legacy of his passion for Hunting.
Joe took his last Buck at age 85, and a trophy indeed.

Well, was blessed with an opportunity of access to a Friend’s property, and took Joe with me in Spirit to take this Gift of a Buck.

Take his Rifle at least a few days each year.

Nice post 64 Model 88! I will hunt with my father's 1958 Model 88 this year in honor of him. I hope to be as fortunate and successful. I will detour from tradition a bit and use some Barnes 130 grain TTSX 308 bullets...but I did mount a Weaver on flip over mounts on it, for nostalgia sake.
