Graco Mercury Recoil Reducer model 14 in a rifle buttstock?

Recently picked up a Savage LA BVSS stock second hand for a 7WSM project. Plans are to re-pillar, bed and re-finish the stock. Whe removing the recoil pad I notice something firmly imbedded in the stock. I actually had to find the right thread pitch screw to thread in the hole and use leverage to pull this thing out.

This reducer was design for a shotgun, will it benefit me any in the buttstock of a rifle?

It makes no difference if it is in a rifle or shotgun it will do the same thing. Reduce felt recoil.

I have one in a heavy recoil rifle and it really improved my groups and accuracy.

I run one in both my F/TR & F/Open Rifles, ads a bit of weight and turns the .308 recoil into that of a .223.
