GRACEY VS GIRAUD TRIMMERS

Has anyone used one of either? How do you rate how they work,the job they do ,ease of operation,production use etc.I am thinking about buying one especially for .223 and .308. Basically HELP!

I have 2 Giraud trimmers with 9 different caliber conversions. That may tell you what I think about it.

I have a giraud trimmer and a Gracey neck turner. Although they both work well, the giraud is made a lot better, is more stable, more powerful, and requires less adjustment to switch calibers. If Giraud made a neck turner, I would definitely buy one.

I too have a Giraud, it was worth every penny, my only suggestion is to buy Hornady or Forster die lock rings and ditch the plano nut the unit comes with to lock the length adjustment.

Easy with the cap lock key LOL. Yes the Giraud trims and deburrs. It is a one-stop tool, and IMHO cannot be beaten for trimming.

Yes, it trims to length and chamfers inside and outside. You will need a different adaptor and blades for each caliber, but once set it needs no adjustment. I have done at least 2000 223 brass, and have not needed any adjustments- the blades remain sharp. It is a great tool, well engineered and well made.

With all respect due to Doyle Gracey, the money I spent on for my Giraud trimmer has been the best spent $$ for ANY of my reloading gear. All it needs is lock rings for the shell holder. Outstanding gear.

+1 Wish Giraud would use some of his expertise to make us a super-nice Neck Turner. The Gracie neck turner works well, but takes a while to set up.

Honestly, the Giraud is so superior to the Gracey that its not even a fair fight. I started with the Gracey and once I tried the Giraud, well, lets just say I only have a Giraud in the house and an unknown number of coversions. I do have a Wilson but only use it for small batches of brass I dont shoot enough of to justify converting the Giraud...which, is only a couple different cartridges that I rarely use. Otherwise, I have a conversion kit for about everything I own.

Giraud. leaves neck perfect, no trimming, etc. Needed. I can trim 50 cases per minutes and that is NOT rushing. All savings kept in self container spot. Easy to clean up afterwards with a small hand vac. Best piece of equipment on my bench.

The honest answer is no... there is sometimes an ever so slight burr that can be noticeable in a tight match chamber.

I love my Giraud, but have found that there is sometimes a slight burr that can be detected by pushing a bullet into a fired case. When the burr is present, it will hold the bullet. After a quick turn with the K&M tool the bullet drops into the case freely after firing.

I have both.
I bought my Gracey from Doyle.
His trimmer blades were crap. Cheap metal that didn't last. I tried to talk him into carbide cutting blades. He wouldn't because he sold too many crappy blades. This was long ago. I had a neighbor of Star Machine make carbide blades for me. Star Machine is long gone, but I still have a few carbide blades for the Gracey left. Adjusting them correctly is a royal pain!
Doyle has passed. His family carries on the business. I have not been satisfied with the adapters I purchased from the family. I have been exceptionally displeased with the smaller caliber ones such as 22 Hornet. They gouge the case. So do replacements. That is why I went to Giraud.

Giraud makes upgrades for the Gracey. A high speed motor and blades. Giraud blades are awesome in the Gracey and easy to adjust.

I also have a Giraud trimmer. I love it. My Gracey collects dust. I may use it again some day if I need to trim a lot of brass and I don't have a Giraud caliber conversion for it. When I buy my next conversion, I will buy an additional Giraud with it.

I also have the Dillon RT-1200 which I also like. CH4D makes many trim dies for the RT-1200, including dies for almost every caliber in existence! I like the RT-1200 for straight walled cases such as .45-70.

ALL trimmers leave burrs! I use a VLD reamer by hand or by drill press to touch up the inside of the case neck before loading. I believe it reduces burr caused flyers.

Had a Gracey. Got rid of it a loooooong time ago. Got the Giraud. Money well spent. Have not had a burr problem. Also, my trimmer got damaged during a move, he fixed it free of charge.
