Gouge Repair

I wouldn't be able to live with that. If I couldn't fix it myself, it would be off to someone who could.
Too fine of a rifle to have a booger like that. Sorry for what happened to your nice Anschutz.

Got this on a beautiful otherwise perfect Anchutez factory stock, . Would you attempt to repair or live with it?

I would refinish it.

Without knowing exactly what they used to finish it originally with and since some topcoats of different types do no play well together long term - That would mean stripping it down to wood and starting over.

Its fixable but to do it well is a good bit of work. I would see first what could be reduced with steam. If it doesnt budge you can put a patch in but it will stand out going across the grain and that's even if you get the finish correct.
A slurry of sawdust and glue could work too before blending colors with markers or pens. Again, matching color and finish is going to be tricky.
Practice on some scrap wood and see what you come up with. It will stick out like a sore thumb to you because you will always know where the patch is but maybe you won't feel it when you carry it there.
