Got My Remington 'X' Trigger EXXED OUT TODAY

l posted earlier about my 700ADL Varmint in 223 l purchased earlier.. A nice rifle as stock rifles go. Shot good at first. But lately the X trigger began getting harder to pull. Best groups in recent days l could only manage 1.7'' to 1.5'' groups.. Not good at all for me or the prairie dogs. l aint a gunsmith. So l called my friend Kenny Jarrett about my troubles... His son Jay answered and suggested l replace the factory X trigger with a TriggerTech.. Not being familiar with that brand l asked for a Shilen instead... Jay said he could install one TODAY!! Arriving at Jarrett Rifles this morning @0700 the old factory trigger was EXXED out 30 minutes later!! He also did away with the pesky magazine and box too...Now a true single shot, lt feeds ammo with ease... Set @ 1.5 pounds the Shilen is a joy to behold and feel... Three shot groups are now a third in size of what they were before.. Half inch. Whats NOT to like??

Yes he did Moe. Kenny's son, Jay installed the aluminum block.. l took pics of the installation. Also targets of ''Before and After'' the trigger swap.. The ''After" group may even be smaller than 1/2''.. l did not actually measure the AFTER group. Just gave it a an eyeball guess... The best l could do with the X trigger ''BEFORE'' was a measured 1.5'' ... l knew the source of my HUGE groups was the factory X trigger... l have a similar Rem 700 Varmint in 221Fireball.. lt will consistently shoot groups of 3/8'' or less.. lt has a Shilen trigger also... Wish l could post pics... Sadly l am computer challenged:-(

Time has run out for any extra mods for now. Jay told me the gun needed bedding badly... lf the gun performs well enough next week in the field l may consider upgrades in the future.. Seeing the inside of that ADL l had to look hard to find any bedding. Looking at stocks on MidWay l discovered a good quality stock cost as much as the whole gun cost me initially:-(

If cost of a new stock is a concern, Accurate shooter bulletin gave this stock favorable reviews a while back when it came out. I haven't used one, but who knows, might be the best stock in it's price point. Seems like good construction.. On sale now for $179. Don't think you'll find a stock with better features and build quality for the money.

Those stockys are fine as long as you dont have to inlet them for a larger bbl. The one I bought started to come apart as my smith had to open up the bbl channel a little.

Was it the particular stock I listed in the link? I saw that they do make them with a varmint barrel channel. I was thinking about getting one for one of my 700 varmint rifles since those rifles dont need anything fancy. Might have to reconsider if they are not structurally sound. Of course Stockys doesnt make any of their own stocks...

I also have a Stockys 100% carbon fiber sporter. Its actually made by AG Composites and is their CAT 700 model sporter stock. It is more solid than anything ive ever felt. Although Stockys sells it under their name, AG warranties the stock themselves for life. I scratched up the paint on it, called AG and they repainted it for me completely free of charge.

Welcome. You could always pick up a BDL bottom metal and mag from PT&G as well.

It was $179 stock with their name on it. Its "glued" or somehow bonded together in a few taco layers and the inner most layer started coming loose from the next layer from being inletted.

I had a stockys long range accublock and opened the channel as much as physically possible IE no flats at top edge,never encountered any layers. I did it with a sanding drum so the heat from that may have affected that.
There was a removable insert for sporter barrels i removed. No idea what it was made of.

I have a couple of XMP's that are "just Ok". The others have been really bad. With the right work, a Walker can be a very good trigger. When I get an unknown one, it goes through the complete disassembly step. Some proper stoning and a reduced trigger pull spring, and you have a trigger I prefer to a Timney.

I got one of those stocks when they first came out. My varmint barrel was such that I didn't have to Dremel anything. It is a good stock and the aluminum bedding was spot on. Lately, I got one of these, https://www.stockysstocks.com/stock...0-vertical-grip-2092-2096-2997-2998-2999.html It is well worth the money and fitment was perfect.
