Got in a squirrel hunt this afternoon

I wasn't going to go because it was a little breezy, but I really wanted to try out my new Athlon 2.5X15 scope, and as it turned out I got these three and am glad I did. They are going to be really tasty with some gravy, biscuits and mashed potatoes.

A little bit about my rifle, it is a Ruger 77/22 with a Hart barrel, and I am shooting Federal Gold Medal UltraMatch ammo that I bought from a member of this forum.

Nice story and nice rifle. I have not used or looked at my old 77/22 in years. I used to love that rifle but probably need to sell it or give it to the kid at this point.
Thanks for sharing. Made me smile.

Dang, I love squirrels for dinner. Haven't eaten any for quite awhile. Reminded me of this pic from quite awhile back. I was getting ready to cook those two grouse, when this big silver-gray showed up in camp. He went in the pot with the two birds.

Your rifle is sweet. Is the dope on the stock for a vertical dot reticle? jd

Have you been out again? Great photos. I think small game hunting/shooting needs more exposure on this site. Especially eastern small game. So few of us anymore....
Yes I have been out a few more times and plan on going out more when the holidays are over.

Growing up. I got tired of eating squirrels every week during hunting season. But I sure wish Mom was around to cook up a mess that Dad and I shot, boy that was a good meal!

Good luck Snert, I always felt good if I went hunting or shooting on New Years Day.
Drags
Looks like 5-8MPH wind and light snow, 32 degrees all day tomorrow, Hope the wind holds. They gotta eat sometime!

Total fail. Lots of deer, but not a lot of squirrel producing trees. It was fun to explore a new woods but turned out to not be what I hoped for.

Great story and nice rifle. Brought back memories from almost 60 years ago. There are still squirrels around here but not like back then.
I think the fire ants get them.

I shot a squirrel in my backyard yesterday with my Benjamin Marauder .22 Field & Target.

Wasn't even done flopping around from the headshot and this guy pounced on him.

Basically gave me the 'Not Yours' look and then took the next 45 minutes to eat the squirrel.
