My best friend's dad played was a brick/block mason and the two of us worked for him one summer.I used to deliver block to a block layer who told me his dad was a block layer. One day, his dad took him to work and showed him how to butter, place, and clean each thirty pound block, telling him, "I'm gonna pay you a nickel a block. Do it right".
The guy said he smarted off, "A measly nickel per block?!!"
Said his dad just looked at him and said, "you'll do it for a nickel, or nothing. But you're gonna do it, and do it right."
It used to be a different world. jd
He always got paid by the thousand bricks and could work us both into the ground. We had a difficult time keeping him in brick and mud. One day we both wound up at the mixer at the same time and his son said something about needing a break. I agreed just about the time his dad came around the corner and he yelled "You get a break every F**k'n time you push an empty wheelbarrow! Now get me more mud and brick!!!!"
