Got an idea

Good afternoon!!

I got an idea and I have never really tried going this route but thought I'd give it a shot.
Working a load for a Borden 300 RUM, 210 VLD Hunt & N570
Starting off .020 from jamb at 3.128 and starting with 93.4 and going to go 95.2. I've played with this prior and did work it up to 96.6 and actually had pretty good sub MOA results, based only at 100yrds though.
96.2 - 96.6 did start showing some minor pressure issues and based on QL I was getting close to max psi and not leaving any play for seating depth. Going this route I was basing my outcome on good ES / SD and typically in the past have come up with a pretty good loads.
Anyway I toned it down and wanted try something new. I know with this new load, I should have velo right around 3050 - 3200.
I picked up a Portektor aluminum windage rest, never shot over one, have always used my Atlas bipod and rear bag, and I also got a Wiser chrono mount for my Magneto, excited to try both
My plan is to zero at 200yrds with 93.0 and then shoot 3 shot groups starting at 93.4 - 95.2 at 500yrds. and will then decide, based on accuarcy what to fine tune, I have no idea if this is a good approach but thought what the hell
Let me know what you think and also for the guys that are useing the front rest, how do you typcally fasten them to say a concrete bench? I'm going to fabricate a steel base plate for additional weight but was wondering if you had any additional tricks

Thanks

You don't fasten them to the bench at all. Set the rest and the bag on the bench and make an imaginary line from the middle of the rear bag through the middle of the rest and bag on to the middle of the target. set rifle in rest and rear bag, adjust height till cross hairs are on target center. Make sure rifle slides well in bags. Lots of people add a steel base plate to rests but I am not sure it is needed. I shoot one of my 300 RUMs off of a green cheap midway rest cause it doesn't have a flat fore end, and the caldwell bag is rounded, it needs no more weight. Remove the sling swivel studs or they will tear your bag. i tried to run 210s in my 300RUM Sendero, but had no luck.
