Gordon's Reloading Tool

I like it and use it now and then. It's a bit quirky and takes some time to find your way around. Quickload is too for that matter. Gordon's Reloading Tool is free, though. I suggest you install it and give it a go. It doesn't matter if you're 73 or 23. Dive in! You can always remove it if you don't like it. Didn't cost a thing except some time!

Do you like it and is it relatively simple to use for a 73 year old man with little patience?
I was 75 when I started using it.
I've found it's great for finding a powder that should work well with the cartridge and bullet that you'd like to use.
For predicting nodes, it can reduce the time and number of shots to find a node. At the same time, even with calibrating GRT with the velocities of a number of shots, it is known to accurately predict a node about 60% of the time. Usually, the node is within a few steps in powder charge above or below what GRT predicts.
When I'm developing a new load, I'll usually make up rounds that are a couple steps above and below the predicted node in case the node isn't where GRT predicted.

Good to know. I have a new rifle to start out with in the spring.

Also a pistol for which I need to develop loads for two significantly different bullets.

I have found GRT to be helpful when developing loads for some of my commie caliber toys. Experimented with bullets(can't always find the right weight and profile) and powders(depending on the bullet choice) to find a couple of combinations that serve my needs rather well, but cannot be found in any manual.

This allows me to enjoy my toys when ammo is less available.

It might take a little time to figure everything out, but when you do, it's a great tool. I use it to find a good starting point for load development. In addition to things like velocity and pressure curves, I really like being able to see the burnt powder rate. Especially for my shorter barrel rifles, I can develop a pretty efficient load before ever stepping foot on the range.

It's a free tool, so it won't hurt to give it a try.

The hardest part for me, and I'm a software guy by trade, isn't the layout or the way to use GRT. It's the terminology and being able to think in those terms to make and estimate useful load data. I actually learned on Quickload, but the thinking is the same.

So basically what I'm saying is, the software is great, but it may take you a bit to start thinking of your loads in the terms that the program uses and understanding what variables to tweak to get useful estimates. So if your a computer guy or not, it really doesn't matter as long as you can learn the terms.

Additionally, there are some really good YouTube videos that go pretty in depth on how to use the software and understand what is going on. Those are worth the watching

Used QL for more than 10 years, almost daily. Looked at GRT, and that is all I use now. Just a year behind you.
I've had QL for a little longer, and love it...but GRT is worth a shot...

Did you download it on a desktop, laptop or Smart phone?

Is GRT Apple or iOS compatible?

Any monthly fees/or "upgrades" after the initial use?

Thanks

GRT is free, period.

GRT runs natively only on Windows. There are workarounds for both MacOS and Linux.

As far as I know, GRT runs only on a desktop or laptop.

I'm assuming it's the same "workarounds" for GRT, as it is QL, to get it to work on Apple iOS or Linux?

Thanks

I think so but I'm not expert on it.

There's a GRT discussion group on Discord where someone could tell you exactly.

That said, I think it's Parallels and WINE respectively.
