Google bans gun/ammo searches

FYI:

Google has banned shopping results for guns or ammo...

Forum Boss says:
No Ban Here: http://www.google.com (main search engine)
Ban is Here: http://www.google.com/shopping (Google shopping portal)

Guys, you can still search for gun stuff, on the main Google search engine. But on the Google shopping site, most searches for gun stuff return no results. You can still search for optics by categories though.

That's funny, I made a search just 30 seconds ago and it still works. Perhaps you have a "Local System Problem"?????

Guys, you can still search for gun stuff, on the main Google search engine.

However, Google has a branded shopping site: http://www.google.com/shopping . That portal site collects product/pricing information from thousands of web retailers, and then displays product photos with current prices. For example, go to the link above and search for "Kestrel 4500". You'll see a bunch of product listings with links to stores.

OK, so you see how it works. But next do a search for "Winchester" or "winchester ammunition". You'll see that there are no results. Likewise if you search for "Lapua" or "Ruger". You'll also get no results for a search for "rifle" or "ammo" or "ammo box".

So Google IS censoring buy/sell info on gun stuff on the Google Shopping site.

You CAN still get results for "spotting scope", "rangefinder" and most optics stuff.

------

So, this is "censorship", but it does not (yet) apply to the main search engine at www.google.com.

guys,

there's something to this...

Google is changing their 'shopping' search: http://googlecommerce.blogspot.com/2012/05/building-better-shopping-experience.html
That means a company will now have to pay Google to list items for sale. I think is is a very bad thing, regardless of the benefits they claim will help consumers, and that has nothing to do with firearms.

If you search "google shopping" for 'vortex spotting scope' it lists the items as we're used to seeing. However, I searched 'vortex rifle scope' and it comes back as no items found.

we're all hosed...

Boss man posted while I was typing... I still think it's messed up...

Google shopper is bringing up all kinds of results on my phone (Android).....

Searched ruger, rock island armory 1911, and even Barnes rifle ammunition

just did Remington rifles too and it works just fine.

I suspect Google server is detecting your device and is using different search restrictions on the mobile delivery (for now). I just searched "Ruger" and "1911" and "Barnes Ammo" on a desktop with Chrome and ALL these searches yielded null results. It's also possible that the blocking is somehow dependent on Chrome browser.

You would be correct sir! I just tried some searches using google shopping on the desktop and it yields no results.

Not political? Does anyone here actually believe that? :o

So why use Google anyways? They capture your keystrokes, sell the info on sites you visit, and apparently are trying to protect you from buying stuff they don't approve of.

Can someone explain why a thing called "Google Shopping" is needed anyways? :o

Really, what does it do for me I can't do with just the search engine and what I'd consider simple and basic educated consumer skills.

We have all the links on top of this forum,, why do we need Google?

I've heard many search engines and email services monies go to the left's war chests direct. Hearsay at best, I know. But the way things are going down now, one cannot discount any crazy notion, no matter how outrageous. I mean if our top lawyer can sell guns to criminals, and top judges can spit on the constitution any thing can happen.

Is there any internet service dedicated to help our agenda? Let me know so I can check it out.

Bing anyone? Or does everyone hate Microsoft too much?

They haven't pulled a "Google" on firearms related shopping yet.
