Good flat base target bullet for short range target shooting for .223?

I recently found out 60g flat base Vmax shot great out of my .223 9 twist. Just as good as 69g SMK's. I done alittle research and found out the flat base bullets shoot better than boat tails at short distance. Now im wanting to try out some flat base target bullets. Anybody have some good info and load data? I will be trying them out at 100 yards. I never shot under .25 MOA with this rifle and thats my goal! Thanks.

Half inch groups and head shots on zombies are good enough for me.

If your aiming for the pupil in the zombies eye you need a better rifle.

LOL! I sure hope im not gonna have to shoot any zombies in the future! I do believe this rifle can shoot .25 @ 100 yards. The best I have done is .3-.35 with 69g SMK's @ 100 yards last week. I have had several 3 shot groups 1 hole. I never measured, but I would guess it was .15-.2. If I can do that in 3 shots then it must be able to do .25 5 shot groups. Im sure there will be some luck involving it, but I dont care. I just want it to happen!!! Keep it coming guys. Let me know some really good groups you guys have got with a .223 and what bullet and load data you guys are using. Thanks.

Anyone try the 35g flat base Vmax? I bet they are screaming fast and accurate! Anyone???

Fgw_in_fla(Frank) had very good luck with them in his .223 WSSM. They would go through the same hole @ 100 yards.

rub it inside or outside my barrel?

Try the Nosler 50 and 55 BT's. They are not flat base but shoot exceptional well for me at 100yards and beyond.

In my experience 1/4 moa groups are difficult - not only requires a super accurate load but very good shooting skills even off the bench with bags.

I've got a 8 twist shilen on my AR and honestly it loves anything I've put through it. Ive always had great luck with bergers an hornady bullets, but for the money check out the Sierra 60gr varminter hp.
At around $16.00 a box they can't be beat.

My favorite FB 224 bullet has always been Sierra's 60HP Varminter. It's always shot very well in several 1:9tw AR15s, as well as in several Krieger & PacNor 1:7.7-1:8tw bbls.

Yep. I been shooting the 53g Vmax with benchmark and it does shoot good. The 60g flat base Vmax shoot better. That's only at 100 yards. I haven't tried them out at a longer distance yet. I plan on it in the next few weekends though.

50gr JAYNERs
27.2 H322 Fed205s
Cooper in 14tw

I believe you're limited in 100yd precision by 9tw. Excess torque..

+1 (1-10 twist also)

My 1:9 Bushy SR loves Sierra 53 gr Matchkings and TAC. A great 100 yd load, also at 200 if mild conditions. Quick to load with powder measure. TAC meters very consistantly.

The 53 gr. Sierra is hard to beat! I used these on top of 26grs of RE-15 and they shoot bug holes out to 300yds. That said, you really need to have the right wind call at 300 before you plop down and let the string go down range.
