Flat-base 260 bullets for 200 yds

Looking to develop a new recipe and steer from the 107 SMK's in hopes to get tighter groups. Figure the flat-base is more forgiving at shorter ranges and was curious as to what bullets/powder choice has given great results.

Thinking on the:

Berger 85gr Target flat-base, or possibly the 120gr but this one is a boat tail.
Nosler Ballistic tip 100gr
Hornady A or V max, BT I kno wbut hear it works great.

Barrel is 1:8 twist.

My 123 grain A-Maxes are supposed to be arriving tomorrow thanks to Powder Valley who not only had them in stock but had them cheaper than anybody else, same with the 95 grain V-Maxes. I'll let you know how they work out of my Creedmoor.

I'm hoping the 123 works well for a 600-yard not too windy load and the 95s will be a coyote load. My past experience with the A-Max (120 grain) was very good accuracy wise, the BC on their new 123 really makes the 120 look bad though so I bet they won't be selling many of those 120s anymore.

Good to know, definately post the results.

Another question, has anyone tried using H4831 with the 107 SMK or the 100GR varmint? Thinking on a practically filled case may help accuracy...looking at around 50grains....just curious.

I wouldn't expect anything that great from that powder and bullet combination, you never know though. I'm thinking I'm going to try R15 with the 95s and 123s just to see how they behave with it and possibly XBR8208 with the 95s, I wanted to try that powder in my 6.5 Grendel anyway so I'm going to pick some up to see what results I get.

Don't get me wrong, the 107's shoot 1/2 MOA all day long, just trying something different to compare. Could be me, but I could never get H4350 to shoot well in this barrel...that won't win any popularity votes for sure ;D but at least for the shorter courses.

Heard good things from RL15, next on my list as well.

Maybe you should try Cauterucios 94 grs flat base handmade bullets? Never tried them, but it would be nice to know how would they perform...

Had the same issues with H4350 in my two 260's. Had much better results with Varget and IMR 4064; especially in the lighter bullets. Might be worth a try.

My 95 grain VMax and 123 AMax showed up finally but too late to load and get to the range today, it may be a day before I get them loaded up and fired.

Here's a picture. Left to right: Berger 140 VLD, Hornady 140 AMax, Hornady 129 SST, Hornady 123 AMax, Speer 120 Hot Cor, Sierra 100 Varminter, Hornady 95 VMax.

Dr. Jeckyl,

The 95 VMax is very accurate so far from my testing but I've only done velocity and slight accuracy testing so far and only at 50 yards but 5 shots is one clean hole at 50. I think you'll be challenged to find a bullet of similar weight with a better BC than the 95 VMAX (.365) as well; it's quite long for a 95 grain (see picture in my previous post) so it'll be closer to your lands than a light weight flat base.

I've shot some half inch 100yd groups with both the 95 Vmax and the 107 SMK but I'm using RE15. I have tried 4350 with the 107s but the group size and velocity were not as good as the RE15 loads. This is in a 6.5 x 47 Lapua.

I have tried the 4831 with light bullets and never had good results. Good results with N-135, 4064, H4895.

For .260, 4831 is sometimes used but for heavy bullets, not light ones. 139-142 will work pretty well most of the time.
