Good Day

Had good day yesterday, called in a coyote and killed it with my Marlin X7 Dasher. Had a great baked chicken dinner, and the Packers came back to beat the Cowboys. What a hoot. Barlow

Is your rifle a full on custom? I have never had a chance to shoot one of their rifles yet and they seem to be getting more popular. Are the barrel threads the same as savage?I am glad the cowboys got beat,I have always liked greenbay. And keep killing the coyotes, they do so much damage like here in new york state, they have reduced numbers of deer pretty bad along with cottontail rabbits.

jonbearman, It is a Marlin XS7, originally chambered in 308 Winchester so the bolt face would be compatible. I tried some Dasher ammo in one before I bought it to make sure they would feed, they feed perfectly. I ordered a Rock Creek 1 in 8, 5R barrel long enough to finish at 26". Took it to Randy Gregory in Medford, Wis. to have it chambered with the same reamer he did my 12Ftr with. I don't know if the threads are the same as Savage. Randy chambered and fitted the barrel, glass bedded the recoil lug and made everything straight and true. Barrel is floated and is exactly what I wanted. I didn't know if I would like the factory stock, but I do. It fits fine and I like the contour of the forend. The barrel is SS, so I painted it with flat black spray paint. I just installed a Redfield 4-12 with accurange, and I like it a bunch. I wanted this rifle to be a working rifle that is not to heavy, will take some abuse and shoot very accurate. I haven't done a lot of bench testing with it, but everything I have put thru it is 5/8" and less (some much less) at 100 yards. Best 3 shot group with 100 gr Hornady bullets, .097 at 100 yards. Been using the Hornady 87gr Amax as a coyote varmint bullet. 35grs RL15 is 3238 MV. Someday I'll screw the 308 barrel back on and see how that works. Barlow

I will have to take a look at one some time as I always liked marlins.I own a bunch of them and they are all shooters.
