Good Chrono under $200?

For the sake of future load development, I have decided to invest in a new chronograph. I don't want junk, but I set my budget limit at $200. Any recommendations?

That's 3 votes already for Magnetospeed. I'll put it on my short list. Based on the design and close proximity to the muzzle, I wondered if there would be any effect on MOA. Probably worse on larger calibers, I imagine.

See John Barsness about mounting a Magnetospeed on a front rest for easy setup and less change of POI. On the other hand with the rise of Magnetospeed and Labradar the Oehler 35P has dropped drastically on the used market and I just bought my second unit for just under $200. Calling the range cold for setup on my local range is not an issue but it does take sandbags or equivalent when the wind blows. One of these days I'll use a 4X4 on sawhorses for the mounting rail.

Magnetospeed on Rock rest

"For those who asked about mounting the Magnetospeed on a Caldwell Rock rest, here's the photo. The plate on top of the rest normally holds the sandbag. I drilled one hole in it to hold the MS bayonet."

I have a Shooting Chrony Gamma Master, now discontinued. I have shot OVER it for 10+ years (means I haven't shot it YET). I don't use the printer, but it just works every day. I had an issue with early morning low sun position, so I added a shade to block the sun "glint" which cancels the shadow of the bullet.

My reason for telling you this, is every chrono available today leaves mine in the dust. I shoot on a private range, but have a technique that enable setting it up on a public range not an issue. You will not find me strapping a weight on the end of my barrel. Every shot I shoot is for groups over the chrono.

I think whatever you get will make you happy. So just decide what basic design you want and make it work for you.

another Prochrono user here. My first died after being bounced around the back of a Jeep for ten years. Bought a second one. Best thing is the bluetooth connector. Control it from your phone and the data can be exported in email and imported into a spreadsheet for record keeping. Works with anything that shoots. Chrono test pistols, bows, air rifles, skinny barrels or bull barrels with no adapters of any sort needed. Get a cheap universal laser boresighter for setting up and never worry about shooting it either

Casio Edifice, easy to find for under $200 even with sapphire crystal, many different styles and colors.

Just ordered my first chrono. I ordered a Prochrono DLX. Older technology, but I like the built in blue tooth. Magnetospeed and Labradar I considered, but both have issues that are show stoppers IMO.

After 20 years, my Shooting Chrony Gamma Master bit the big one (168gr). I discovered Shooting Chrony is OOB.
Order a Prochrono DLX and couldn't be happier. Built in bluetooth, no wires to string. Even talks to me with the velocities.
Much more data saved than I could ever do with the GM.
Roughly $135.00 online, delivered. Does much better at picking up shots than my SCGM ever did.
Labradar is great, when it works, but not for 4-5 times the price, for me. Never cared for the strap-ons.

CED M2 is the best choice in your price range. Totally phenomenal, I compared this to the Lab Radar, I got matching results. A good friend of mine with poor eye site bought it from me because the numbers are large enough to easily see.

I've had a Prochrono DLX for probably a year and for some reason it works a lot better than the older version it replaced. The older one missed a lot of shots, this one doesn't.
To me, the phone program alone is worth the cost of the unit. It allows you to keep a record of every bullet out of your barrel and even a photo of your groups.

I've been using a Beta Master.
No bluetooth or anything fancy.
With fresh batteries it just plain works.
Spent i think $125 on it.

I looked at the Magnetospeed, but i didn't/don't want anything strapped to the end of my barrel.
With the Beta Master i can still shoot groups.
