good bipod for FTR

"Real World Skills"
The ability to drink 12 Dos XX's, be a respected member of the table of knowledge at the Hampton, manage to choke down a taco from Dell Taco because you "forgot" to go eat between cleaning your rifle and seating bullets, showing up for squading the next morning with bells on.

I shoot a Flex Pod.

Harris bipods are widely used in F-Class? Where do you shoot?

I was thinking the same thing..... :o......I shot a Harris bipod in the first F class match i ever shot and saw 1 or 2 here and there at matches but widely used?......I don't remember ever seeing one at a big match like a regional, state, or National match......Maybe i didn't look hard enough.

:P ;D 8)

I think I am going to start shooting with my Harris bipod again. At least then, when my performance is dismal (as usual) I will have an excuse. I think I need a new excuse. Using the hangover excuse from hanging around with Down South, Medic505 and DosXX at the matches is getting to be a stale excuse.

"The rifle is a weapon. Let there be no mistake about that. It is a tool of power, and thus dependent completely upon the moral stature of its user. It is equally useful in securing meat for the table, destroying group enemies on the battlefield, and resisting tyranny. In fact, it is the only means of resisting tyranny, since a citizenry armed with rifles simply cannot be tyrannized."

"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

— Jeff Cooper, The Art of the Rifle

Who cares about your F-Class scores? If you fail to appreciate what Cooper is saying, all your rifle skills are worthless.

Anyone familiar with the thoughts and writings of Jeff Cooper would surely recognize the value Cooper placed on competitive shooting sports.
He held strongly that through organized scoring one learns which techniques, skills, and equipment are effective, and which are not.
Thus came IPSC.
Whether one shoots F-Class, or any, or no particular discipline, if you are shooting at a target of any sort, you are scoring/ judging your skill. technique and equipment, for whatever reason(s).

I shoot a Flex Pod.

I can safely say I am high master of real world skills.

Oh and another flex bipod user here.

Bergerfan, Everybody owns a Harris, and knows what its good for. And what is superior for 'real world' scenarios. And what is superior for F-class. And what is a green-ass defensive attitude. Your situational awareness needs a tune-up. Nevertheless, there is much to commend: 1) getting it done on the cheap 2) working with youth. Seymour

Hey Skip, are you saying we're bad influences?........ :P........What about Greg, i see you didn't include him in the list?.......... ;D ;D ;D

I work with a number of younger shooters who routinely average under 0.5 MOA shooting off of Harris bipods, and that with factory rifles and Leupold scopes. But hey, what do I know? You don't need 2K optics, custom rifles, and fancy bipods to be competitive.

You forgot "all day long" and "when (I) do (my) part". ::) Get a grip.

If you or the people you are mentoring are capable of being competitive or winning at the various HP competitions (including, but not limited to F-Class) with that sort of equipment, I would *highly* encourage you to show up and show people what's what. I guarantee you that if you start handing people's @sses to them at competitions using that equipment, sheep-le (er, people) will be on your equipment list like white on rice.

OP - I use a Phoenix bipod (or am starting to use one rather). I saw quite a lot of them (along with Flex-Pod's and a few others) at the firing line at the SWN.

Mr Down South, I never meant to insinuate that you guys are a bad influence. I just need excuses, and you guys have been a great excuse for me. Except maybe DosXX, he is a bad influence on everyone.

"relevant competitions"

Would someone please explain to me "relevant competitions"? What about irrelevant competitions?

I think I've already mentioned about the bipod from forum member Gnergry he makes an awesome product. I have two of them an if I could I would have more
An as for real world skills I've done my share (google memo Sandoval), when I was a plt Sgt for a sniper platoon we use to shoot ftr style matches for practice when ever we got range time. Bulls eye style targets vice man size target, where a hit is more than a hit its a number score. As well forces you to shoot groups more center. This has helped me tremendously in doing the job I have done over seas. I always tell all my fellow shooters to give gallery type shooting a shoot since just about anyone can hit a man size target but few can hit a man size target in the X ring (vital zone) .
I understand there are different disciplines an for each there own. I like them all marksmanship is marksmanship just a different delivery of the fundamentals
