Good 25 cal pdog bullet

I'm looking for a good 25 cal bullet for p-dogging. Has anyone tried Sierra's 70 or 90 grain blitzkings? I was also looking at Hornady's 75 gr V-max.

I use two bullets in my 25-06, the 75Vmax loaded w/IMR 4064 and the 100Gr SMK loaded w/H4831SC. These two loads have less than one inch seperation at point of impact at 100yds w/o scope adjustment. Larry in western Ky.

The 75 gr Hornady V-max will handle more velocity than a Blitz King but yet evaporate on impact. I tried some blitz kings in a 220 Swift once and they would sling themselves apart not too far from the muzzle. Jacket is too thin for high rotation and velocity. To be honest I have never tried the 25 cal blitz kings because of what happened with the 22 cal. I shoot a 25-06 and use the Sierra 87 gr SP to groundhog hunt and it really comes apart and scatters them everywhere. Never shot a P-dog because they
don't live in my area.

75 gr Vmax with 4064 great choice in 25-06. I use 52 grains. Hot load so start lower and work up. Also use 75 gr Vmax in my 25-284 with reloader 19. Good luck. Scott

I'm shooting a 25BR (13 twist) and I have a good load with bergers, but I dont think they'll expand much on the dogs. I'll give the 75 vmaxs a try. Anyone shooting them out of a 25BR?

i've got a wildcat .25 cal .. not as small a case as the BR thou...

have you tried the horndays 60gr. sp.
h4198, h335 would in your size case work nicely w/ the 60gr bullet... maybe even varget as well

I have tried 85 grain ballistic tips and they are very effective but are a little costly. I have been using the 75 grain VMax with very good result also. You asked about the new Sierra 70 grain blitz king bullet and I've found them to be just awsome on varmints, I had no problem with them at extreme velocity, they held together fine and also found them to be very accurate out of my 25-06 varminter and I intend to make them my go to bullet.

Unless your running a really fast twist with lots of speed, the 70 grain Blitz king will do a heck of a job.. My 10 twist 25/284 XP has no problems at all with them...

but stepher does it provides you the same performance level and satisfaction level.
My best group with them was .270 and chucks are shredded and some are turned inside out. :o It's rare if it doesn't make me throw up in my mouth a little. Only my 300 RSAUM with 110gr V-Max's can beat the massacre but not by much.

Don't forget the 87 grain Speer TNT's or the 85 grain ballistic tips. Another vote for the 87 grain Vmax.

All are better options when shooting over 300 yards than the lighter bullets.

Mike.

I shot a bunch of groundhogs with sierra 75 gr. hps and 87 gr. spitzers, there are few bullets out of a .25-06 that do the kinda damage they do, the 75grs are unbelievable on woodchucks. 85 gr. ballistic tips are not nearly as explosive.

I've been shooting the 75gr. V-Max out of my 25-06 for about 5 years now, and kills are awesome. Have shot crows, p-dogs and coyotes with them, and they're all dead on impact. I'm loading them with Varget, and it consistently produces between 1/4 and 1/2 MOA groups at 100 meters.

I get 3900 fps with the 70g Blitzking out of my .25-06 with RL17. No problems with bullet blow up at that velocity in my 3-groove 10 twist. The last crow I shot with that combo, only feathers and some chunks were left when it hit the ground.

Wow kyreloader, that's some serious speed right there! Heck I'm only doing about 3725 with a 55BK out of my 22-250.
I just got a jug of RL17 to try in my 243.

Anyway, I worked up a good load for a buddy last year with the newer Sierra 90gr BlitzKings in his 25-06 and we had a ball busting ground-hogs. Made the most ridiculous, loud audible pop I have ever heard on impact. I really like these bullets.
