GONG advice

Get a 1/2" ar500 target they are all pretty much the same but if it were me I would purchase from one of the sponsors here.

I use rubber conveyor belting to hang mine, bolt the belting to the target then make a loop and bolt the belting back to itself so you have a loop to hang it from. Belting holds up way better than chain and you don't get any false hits

We have a 1/2" thick AR500 target at 300 yards. For centerfire I would not want to be any closer than 100 yard. We hang our target with strips of a mud flap about 2" wide. They take a lot of hits and still hang in there. Use grade 8 bolts. If you use chain, it will break on the first hit. Oh one more thing. They will find a way to punch holes in it.

We'd love to sell you some targets, but you gotta promise to shoot them at 100 yards MINIMUM with centerfire rifles. It's not about the target longevity, rather the safety of you and others.

Our 1/2" thick stuff is all AR550 - a little harder than standard AR550. We also have stands, hooks, T-Post hangers. All designed to work with our gongs.

75 yards is too close for rifle fire on AR500 targets. I suggest 100 yards minimum. Yes I know that the cops shoot their 223's a lot closer than 100 yards, but they also know that shortens the life of the targets, and are wiling to replace them when they develop divots.

I suggest you contact Custom Metal Products (my son's company), they have a Shot Show Sale going on, use code SHOT19, ends at end of SHOT show, Jan 26

I made a gong swinger for pistol shooting. No big deal, easy to make and el cheapo to boot.

Along with my 'combat silhouette' falling plates, it makes for a good informal pistol range. Better commercial units can be found for sure, but with a zero cost factor, this is working quite well, thank you. :D

Magnum??? Don't shoot a 3/8th AR 500 with a 17 Remington inside 100Y unless you want pock marks in it.

I have a small 1" thick AR 500 that I shoot inside 100Y occasionally, it still gets small pock marks but it'll hold up to abuse.

nice stand. did you bend EMT, then weld, and paint?

Yep, my son has a nice fab shop here, so a few minutes on the bender, a few more with the TIG welder, used some scrap AR500 for the gong, some spray paint, and wha-la, my very own pistol swinger.

I had to weld some 'feet' with holes to put some tent stakes in it, as once you get the rhythm going, I could knock the thing clear over. Once staked to the ground, problem solved. When I shoot my new Kimber Aegis Elite Custom 1911 9mm with the Vortex Venom 6MOA red dot, the speed I can deliver rounds to the gong surprises even me, so anchoring it to the ground was absolutely needed.

Pull-pins allow it to fold flat for transport or storage:

Best part was the price! :D
