Golden Rule, Golden Rule, Golden Rule! Stop the Insults Boys...

Forum Boss

Administrator
I don't know if it's the cold weather starting, making people grumpier and more cranky, but we have seen an unacceptable rise in smart-aleck negative and caustic remarks in threads. And yes, despite warning after warning after warning, people are still posting negative comments in Classifieds which is 100% against Forum policies.

I want to remind everyone that this Forum will really suffer if posters fail to treat other Forum members with respect. You expect to be treated with respect, right? So apply that to others ... ALL the time.

Golden Rule: One should always treat others as you would want them to treat you.

Absolutely agree, I have noticed an increase in caustic remarks. There should be no place on this forum for that sort of thing! Thank you forum boss for the reminder and with that in mind you can be sure of my continued support.

Did I miss something???? You guys are so anal, OCD and nerdy with the finer details of accuracy, loading and shooting, I never noticed an insult on this forum. Unless the insults are at such a high level of intellect my simple mind is missing them, wait a minute have you guys been making fun of me without me knowing it????. ;D

Really, I never noticed an insult here, some high level debates but always within bounds of gentlemanly conversation.

Since the Boss posted this I have seen an increase in nasty demeaning stuff going on.My question is why do some intimidate others who ask questions and then get pounded for asking.I always thought that most fella's wanted to help and the rule was there are no stupid questions. It is like being in high school and the local bully just has to beat you up for his own entertainment.People like this usually were picked on and are getting even.I just dont get it.Let's play nice and do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

There are two Golden Rules. The first is, One should always treat others as you would want them to treat you.

The second is, Thems that have the Gold, makes the rules.

I like the first one best. ;D

I will admit to being someone who can read between the lines sometimes. But I feel that my quips or responses are proper at the time I write them. When emails started in the Fed, I learned the hard way that when you read something, try not to put it into your 'voice' in your head. It turns a simple email/note into something very personal. Read the whole thing, then get up and go to the cooler and a cooling off before responding. Then return to the computer and respond as your heart prescribes. It may not fit well with some who read it, but it is indeed heartfelt at the time of writing. In the Rubaiyat of Omar Kyam he stated “The moving finger writes and having writ moves on / nor all thy piety nor wit shall lure it back / nor all thy tears wash out a word of it.” So I try to make it right the first time.

We can get along by following what dickn52 suggested. If we are in a bad mood ,dont write anything. The truth is we all have asked obvious questions that others are annoyed by for some unknown reason.I dont care if the writer is trying to be funny or mean,I just help.I cant see wasting you personal time to insult or demean anyone unless you are friends and know it is just humor.I had a member write me a nasty note about me saying I got single digit extreme spreads and standard deviation. He implied it was impossible.I have actually seen it printed here dozens of time's but he claimed it was all BS.I took it personally because he was calling me a liar.I was gonna call him out but decided it isnt worth it.I have been attacked on this site many time's just because I had a different opinion. So calm down and either help or just read it and go onto the next thread and forget it.If it is a safety concern, then by all means let them know like the gentleman you are today and tomorrow.

Sportsman;

I'm Casey Simpson, and I want to introduce myself to you all. I'm fifty years of age and I have been shooting irregularly since I was big enough to shoot, as a kid, a .22 rifle I found, on a farm in central Louisiana. My shooting mentor was Bucky Murdock, a high school teacher at my school who'd been reloading ammunition since the nineteen fifties and had a gun collection of many rifles, pistols, shotguns, both factory and custom. We would shoot on Sunday afternoons at his 500 meter range on one of his farms. He had everything it seemed. Browning shotguns, Weatherby rifles, 1st gen Colt SAA revolvers, Clark Custom 1911's, and custom Metallic Silhouette rifles we would shoot on his official range where we also held the annual Louisiana Metallic Silhouette Championship match. Though I quit shooting for twenty years after high school, the matches continue. My shooting mentor has since died, and I bought several guns from his collection including a NM Garand that shoots nearly touching holes he had fired on a team as an US Army Reservist. When I shoot it, I get to love my mentor from whom I learned much all over again.

Presently, I enjoy pesting with pcp's, comps in the Precision Rifle Series, finishing wood with Tung Oil, and detailing my car and friends' private business aircraft when I'm not being a petroleum industry lawyer.

Though I have benefitted from Accurate Shooter dot com for several years I had posted as a member of another forum community, but I want a refreshing experience so I have registered here. Many inappropriate and uncalled-for arguments occurred there, and I am encouraged here to see the Boss's warning about putting down others. That behavior is strange. Psychologists can explain it. How we treat others reveals, unwittingly, how we have been treated. So unless we want everyone to know we were bullied too, we should not bully others.

I am here to participate in a flourishing community of ladies and gentlemen who conduct themselves accordingly. Personally, I feel a bully poster should be permanently banned. I want to participate in a community to learn and to teach. I wish to help others to avoid my mistakes and wasting time, and If you can help me to benefit reciprocally, I would appreciate it.

Thank you for your time here and I look forward to an enjoyable experience with you all.

Peace,
J. Casey Simpson
Shreveport

Instead of bullying a poster publicly, do it in a pm, or not at all.

My biggest complaint is gutless people posting a complaint on the forum without addressing the problem with their supplier.

Two (2) things I notice that is prevalent here from a few people: 1.) responses from individuals from a "reply" they may not agree with>> AND those "responses" are not always tempered with the "concept of "The Golden Rule"; and 2.) sarcastic innuendo to someone's response for no apparent reason.... When I see this type of activity, it makes my bile boil.. Now none of the above has been leveled at me>>but nonetheless I see it more often than I care to.. I R-E-A-L-L-Y wish people would consider the other persons feelings PRIOR to any response they may consider..

I am with you shootdots,it is high time to just quit the complaining and rudeness for no reason whatsoever.I see it constantly from only a handful of folks who just cant grasp the golden rule.I sincerely wish that during this holiday season we could just stop with all this kind of childish behavior.
