Golden Eagle: Which Reticle?

I'm going to be getting a Golden Eagle sometime and am contemplating the reticle options.

Can folks comment on what they have and whether they like it or not?

To elaborate on how I'll be using it: I don't yet compete in F-Class but I'm not closing the door to possibly doing so in the future. This scope is going on a straight .284 I just took delivery of. I go to the Whittington Center somewhat frequently and spend time on their 1,000 yd range - but will also be using it on their High Power Silhouette range....which also has the buffalo at 1,100 yds.

I'm trying to think through having the "busy-ness" (i.e. "clutter") of the ECR-1 but along with that the benefit of MOA markings right on the reticle. Versus the clean lines of the SCR-1. In past experience oftentimes reticle markings are not as visible when on target as they appear in the white background images shown by the scope manufacturer.

Thanks!

The ECR is not cluttered at all. It's a very good reticle for precision. Having the marks are nice and the dot allows a very precise shot. Here is a pic I took when I got mine. I am not good at through the scope pics but it will give you an idea. I think it's on about 40x if I remember correctly and the car was about 90 yards I think.

I realize the following might be a stupid question - but I'm comfortable with my ignorance. :D

When that ECR-1 reticle is on a black target, the reticle center point (dot) is relatively easy to distinguish? It doesn't get lost in the black of the target itself?

I use it for strictly F-Class and have no issues seeing the reticule on the black targets either at 600 or 1K

I've used mine at 60x in the last 2 f class shoots. This last shoot was a heavy overcast day, I could see the reticle clearly and place the ECR-1 reticle anywhere I wanted. I really like this reticle, I like it over my old N.F. 12-42 Benchrest NPR2 and my N.F. 8-32 Benchrest NPR1.

Thank you all for the replies.

I didn't know it when I started this post, but I now realize I was in a "can't lose" situation.

It was looking like I possibly had a line on a lightly used GE - friend-of-a-friend kind of thing. But when I learned about it it wasn't known which reticle it had. I'd decided on the SCR-1 were I to go buy new. And I knew I'd have to make a really fast decision once I learned which reticle this used one had.

So with the above reports I now see I couldn't lose. It turns out it is an SCR-1. But you all gave me the confidence to say "I'll take it no matter what!".

Thanks again.

I have one with the ECR-1 reticle and like it enough that I’m thinking about changing from an Athlon Ares BTR to an ETR to get the open middle/ center dot setup on an FFP scope

Have you looked at the Vortex EBR-7? Great FFP reticle with a dot as well. Use it on my PRS style rifles.

I had seen it out there and really like that reticle as well. The first one I looked through with the dot reticle was a Sig a number of years ago and while it felt kind of strange not having a “strong“ aiming point (felt a little like I was aiming at space and was worried it wouldn’t be as precise), when I went to the open middle of my Golden Eagle I really liked the clear view of the target and the ability to judge my target in the middle of the aiming area (even if I wasn’t specifically looking for the dot). I feel that for benchrest the pinpoint size of the dot is an advantage, and for PRS the ability to potentially ignore the dot for a fast, clear target view that’s “good enough” and the ability to shade one way or another make the open middle the way I will probably go on all my future scope purchases.
