Golden Eagle vs NXS for F-Open and why?

Pass on the GE and get the NF Comp. I shot em' side by side
for the past two years from 100 to 1000 yards and everything
in between. The NF simply has better glass in my opinion. if it's
a money issue.....Lot of good used NF 12-42's to be had at a
fair price. And don't forget the Sightron. 10-50x60.

GE before any of the NXSe any day of the week, if you start talking about the NF Comp then go with the Comp unless your scared it might not track then you need to start looking at Kahles or something like that. The NF BR is also a very good option but I wont buy that above a GE unless you can find a very good deal on a BR

I went from a 8-32 Sightron ( very good scope) to a 10-50 Sightron ( another very good scope ) to a GE that was rather frustrating when comparing the image quality to the previous scopes.
I finally called Optics Planet and bought a new Nightforce Comp, these are excellent scopes with world class image quality.

The only way to compare image quality is to look through both scopes, at various distances, side by side. Which, unless you know people who have this gear and will bring it to the range for comparison, is pretty much totally impractical.

It's not just about image quality. Repeatability of adjustments, and overall mechanical reliability (e.g. does it return to zero after W/E adjustments throughout the magnification range) is essential. Weight of scope is a factor, size of objective presents mounting issues, and the scope tube sections between the turrets and ocular and objective segments is another thing.

I tried a March scope, for example, because of their reputation for great glass. But the eye relief was just way too critical. I had to have my pupil in just the right place or the image was impaired. Couldn't send it back fast enough.

I vote that the OP should buy/try the 40mm maintube Sightron (their part number 29001) and report back. :)

I use a 8-32x56 NXS and a couple NF Competitions at 600 and 1k yards. I like the DDR2 reticle. No complaints. If you don’t like whatever you purchase, it’ll sell very easily.

If you look around hard enough you may be able to find a used NF NXS 12-42x56 with the .125moa turrets.
They are very good scopes, this is an NXS not to be confused with the Bench Rest model.

I have both scopes on 2 F Class rifles. I like the eye relief on the 12-42 NXS more than my Vortex GE. I have never had a problem with tracking on either scope. I bought my Vortex when they were much cheaper $1200.00 and the Nightforce new was $1900. With today prices of either scope I would look at the Nightforce competition over either model. I don’t know if you could swing it but it’s my suggestion. I like more power on the GE and how light it’s compared to the NXS. As far as clarity I’m planing on shooting them both this weekend and I will get back to you. I’m happy with both scopes but I have always wanted the Nightforce competition model.

I had the opportunity to look thru a 8-32 NF NXS and GE 10-60 I think. For my eyes, the NXS was much brighter with both scopes set at the same magnification. I didn't have a chance to shoot using the GE so maybe my eyes would have adjusted.
Just my .02c,

Side by side under various conditions, I chose the NF BR over the GE. It was very close, but I could resolve more and liked the BR better… some may decide differently and/or different samples may score differently…

Do note that the GE lost resolving power above about 40-45x… so, don’t think you are giving up magnification with the BR…

Also, I was able to dial in parallax better with the AO of the BR… but, side focus is more convenient.

I would be interested in how much better the Comp is over the BR…??? But, for the money, I would also look at Sightron…. Not that I don’t like the BR… it is very nice and I believe folks have done well with it over the years…

The GE is a great scope I liked the ECR reticle for target shooting FTR. Ive used a NF 8x32 NXS as well. To my eyes the NF glass is brighter and easier to adjust for mirage. Currently running a NF Comp. Sold the GE, not because it was a bad scope but just wasnt using it.

Bought 2 GE's about 2 years ago. At the time I was thinking of buying a spotting scope and thought well a 60X power GE would work just as good. WRONG!

I have had Vortex PST II in the past and liked them for 600 and 1000yd shooting. The issue with the GE is that over 40-45X, they darken and if there is any mirage forget higher power.

Now I love the Reticle in the GE, very fine and easy to use.

I’ve shot 12x42 NSX and the NF Comp a lot at 1K and looked through friends GE’s. I’d say the the NSX is a little better than the GE and the Comp is light years ahead of the the GE and NSX.

IMHO I would get a Kahles 10x50 Moak, I had one sold it cheap and I'm a _________ass I put myeslf down for good reason

the GE goes dark and blurred after 45 the Kahles is clear and the power is greater than than most scopes at 50 by my eyes
This is what my GE does. Handy on really bright days but otherwise frustrating. Kahles & S&B are very nice.
Consider a Sightron SvSS if you are shopping. My Mark I eyeball loves it.
