Golden Eagle vs. Non-ED SVSS

I'm really interested in the fine focus on the SV but the ED version isn't in my budget now. I have a Golden Eagle now. How do the standard SV's compare?

Sightron will be a bit brighter and have a larger eye box to work with. Turrets on the Sightron aren't as stiff as the GE which I appreciate. I don't know if you will gain much more performance for the weight added.

If you already own a Golden Eagle would this be a second scope??
I have two Sightron scopes and both are excellent imo

It would replace the GE, I only have one rifle that would warrant la scope like that. I've had a SIII 8-32 and was happy with the glass. I was just wondering if the standard SV glass was about the same as the SIII.

non ED SVSS then the GE is the clear winner IMHO.
clicks and turret are nicer and I think the glass is a bit more consistent and better (just my opinion) I put one on my latest build and at 1250 I actually saw the holes in the paper, but to be fair it was an EXCELLENT optics day.

Your individual eyes would be the best "judge" of that. And that is what I'd do to make the comparison.
As for my personal opinion, it probably wouldn't be valid for you & your eyes & perception so I'll refrain.

Was the 2nd fine focus knob really a big improvement over a regular one?

I have the ge and the ONLY thing I would replace it with (money considered) would be the sved. the ONLY thing!!

The GE is about the "best bang for the buck" out there for target scopes - IMO
It doesn't loose out by much in clarity to any high dollar scopes I've looked through - IMO
And they've proved out well on scope checkers to POI shift, which is the single most important aspect for target scopes.

Have the GE and NF-BR on my comp rifles, and see no reason to change to anything else at this point.
Just my 2-Cents

To decide on buying the new ED Sightron I compared a non ED version vs one of my GEs by looking at a used target on a very sunny day at 500yds with bad mirage. I could discern holes with the S but only occasionally with the GE. I sold one GE and replaced it with the SED. The dual focus knob is the ticket for me. That being said I think the GE overall might be the best bang for the buck. I also have several Leupold Competitions. They are the only scopes I have used for close 20 yrs and never had to send for repairs but optically the fall behind the other two quite a bit. The clarity and brightness of the SED is worth the money.
