Gold and blue boxes of lapua

Why are so many interested in the color of the box ? I have both, from over the years and the brass in each and I can not tell any difference in the quality between the two. Have a couple of sizes in the cartridges/brass
for some chamber/sizes.

Your question was reasonable the same as we all had years ago the ones not understanding and making comments about what they don’t know is just that….. they don’t understand!… Right now most all shooters will benefit from blue box brass in particular 6br brass because most reamers for a factory no turn neck made now are for blue box how some ever in 2010 this was not!… the case, it was approximately.001 thicker and to serious competitors that mattered!… not to
Mention the different composition of the brass leading to brass not lasting as long!… I got my first Dasher in late 2010 and with it a couple boxes of “Gold” box brass, I shot it for a couple matches then the season was over, I rebarreled to 6brx and decided to go with the
New “Blue” box brass as there was already chaos and mayhem on this forum about it!… traded the gold off for blue!… I myself never saw that the new brass didn’t last as long or rather I was very pleased with the life I got out of it. I’m still using my original 6brx brass with well over 30 firings, I retired it from competition a long time ago but groundhogs can’t tell the primer pockets are lose .

Well, there must be some difference in the brass. There was an issue with the last batch of 6 BR brass I sent to DJ's brass service to get hydroformed. He called and said I should have told him it was brown box Lapua brass. I told him it was CLEAR BAG LAPUA BRASS, because that is how I got it. H said he "lost" about 15 pieces before he could figure out the problem. I thought he said the necks were thicker.

I’ve got some Gold box 6.5-284 and some Blue box straight 284. The older stuff is thinner and has a larger flash hole.

I recently built a no neck turn 6BRA. The reamer makes a .272 neck.

The latest Lapua blue box 6BR brass is outstanding. I can barely measure any wall thickness variation in the necks. They are perfect in a .272 neck.

For my birthday back in February, a friend gave me a box of the old Lapua gold box 6BR. I was rather excited until I checked the necks with a ball mic. The necks were about .0005 thicker, but the majority exhibited around .001 wall thickness variation.

In my opinion, the latest lots of Blue Box are outstanding.

I've often wondered why folks are so fascinated with the packaging of Lapua brass.

People do it with other stuff as well. Back about 25 years ago I was a pretty serious pool player. The most widely used cue chalk in my area was made by Masters. When Masters changed the wrapper on their very popular product, suddenly there was a craze for chalk with the old wrapper. The manufacturer claimed that nothing was changed but the label and most people agreed, but that didn’t stop some people from paying extra money for any old stock.

That is correct. Gold box 6 BR brass is .00075 to .001 thicker necks.

First one must have the tools capable of repeatedly measuring 1 ten thousandths of an inch. Then that would bring us full circle with no neck turns. In my experience there is always a heavy side on brass. Never seen a piece of perfect brass. Haven't been lucky enough to buy it. Alot of perceived runout is from neck imperfections.
