Going with Air

I saw JSB is one of the best pellets and they are made in the Czech Republic. Does the Czech Republic make anything that’s bad? Seems like everything that comes out of the Czech Republic is amazing quality. CZ firearms, Meopta Optics, JSB pellets, and probably a bunch of other high quality items I’m forgetting. If I see a “made in Czech Republic” sticker or emblem on a product anymore, I won’t hesitate to buy it.

My moderator is the DonnyFL Shogun. The revised DonnyFL 1/2-20 adapter for the Avenger has an extension on it so getting the fill cap off is not an issue anymore.
Good deal. I hate it when I order something and then it does'nt work the way I thought it would. I just threw it out there for info purposes. Not that big of a deal to some if you would have to take off the moderator to fill.

I shoot my daystate red wolf more than any other gun i have. I have a compressor and 4500psi scba tank to keep it going. As far as pellets are concerned whoever you buy your gun from should be able to tell you what will shoot. I bought what they said for each gun i have and they shoot like a br rifle but i snuck out on my own and have gathered up a big collection of useless pellets. On my red wolf and the brocock i have if you dont shoot the right pellet you may as well be shooting a daisy. It shoots very bad with the wrong pellet. I use the zeroDB moderators and shoot anytime at my house. Im at the 75yd mark right now learning and will be going to 100 soon

Rsadams, lol we might be related some how. And yes thank goodness I got away from race cars and car projects. Just sold my last project to an ambitious young fellow, those funds bought me a really nice little Marlin lever gun in 32-20 just because I had wanted one for a long time, a lot easier to store too!

Air guns, y’all are not helping my itch. I have an RWS 45 that has had a ton of pellets put through it the past 30 years. It was responsible for the demise of over 400 pigeons a couple of years ago.

Am wondering what caliber most folks are going too.
I have as satisfied with what I saw in 22 caliber but the 25’s have now peaked my interest.
Not cheap by any means but I don’t want to have to keep upgrading, so I am set with going with FX unless someone can give me a good reason not too.

FX has a reputation for breaking. Air Arms or Daystate will give you the same accuracy with more reliability. I don't own any of them ( a die hard RAW fan ), just relaying what I've read over the last 20 years.

No it was a good point on the Avenger. Definitely was an issue when the rifles first came out a few years back and aftermarket items were working the bugs out. Hoping I won’t have to remove the moderator to fill with the Shogun but if I do no big deal.

Another member recently hooked be up with a deal on a tricked out Benjamin Discovery and I’ve been having a blast shooting in the back yard. I’m using a hand pump for now, but I definitely plan to get a scba tank in the near future. The target pic was 5 shots at 25 yards.

Those Daystate rifles look awesome. The electronic trigger and valving system is pretty sweet. I may work my way up to a Daystate at some point but gonna dio my toes in the water with the Avenger to see how I like it. I want to buy decent pcp support equipment so if I swap rifles then I’m ready to rock. Have a “GX” HP compressor coming and the HP hand pump showed up yesterday.

The Avenger max tank pressure is 300 bar so a compressor is the way to go. Hand pumping to that pressure all the time would be pretty insane but I still want a hand pump as a backup. The tune I plan on running is down around 1700-1900 psi where I will get around 90-100 shots with a 18-21gr pellet and 30 fpe. Hand pumping to 200 bar is definitely doable and will still give me about 40-50 shots before falling off the reg.

Although I believe Daystate is just as good as the FX, I have to say my FX .25 cal Wildcat has been very accurate and reliable for 4,000 + pellets. It still shoots 5-shot 1/2" groups at 50 yards, and 1 1/4" groups at a 100 yards. I've done nothing to it except I did adjust the safety once. It's never leaked. Three of my friends shoot the same FX set-up and haven't mentioned any problems with theirs. If one is hunting, in my opinion the .25 caliber is hard to beat. 7315br

Hand pumps are useless on a higher end gun. The hulk cant make it that far

I have a crown. Very nice

Yeah I tried hand pumping up to 300 bar with my test plug in last night (pump rated for 4500 psi). Even with all of my 230 lbs bearing down on the handle, I didn’t quite make it. Lol. Maybe could have got there by jumping on it a bit but I don’t want to ruin the hand pump seals before it ever fills a rifle.

It’s just a good backup to hold a guy over when a compressor needs repair or replacement.

Thanks gents for any and all input. The quality is one thing on any of these, customer support and parts availability is a major concern, at least to me. With the crap going on across the globe and our wise politicians, getting some items no matter how small or minute can be a huge problem. Heck, look at where we are even in country.
I am all ears for those that have “been there done that” experience. I have found it easier and cheaper in the long run to learn from others experience.

That’s where these forums and YouTube video reviews become priceless. I have watched so many hours of YouTube on the subject now. Hoping it all pays off by giving me a jump start on the learning curve of the pcp world

As long as you buy your gun from a reputable dealer that actually services like airguns of arizona, you wont have an issue with parts

My Daystate airwolf (25 cal) was great at shooting stuff but it got boring
My FX Crown was good at 100yds but filling the tank more that shooting
But nothing could touch my RAW 17 cal or 25 cal for compition.

Just like 22lr is all about the ammo…. Spent more time sorting them…. Aarggggggg……

Daystate Regal 17 cal. 10.3 gr. JSB pellets for 20 ft. pound competitions, and an FX Crown 25 cal. 33.95 gr. JSB pellet for varmints. Also shoot an Anschutz Super Air Off Hand Olympic 7 ft. pound at 10 meters all winter in my garage to keep my off hand skills somewhat on par with the pro's that continually remind me that I need to keep practicing! We were shooting @steve123's Thomas air rifle to 300 yards today on steel. Unreal what these air rifles are capable of. Keeping in mind that a lot of places in this world have not had the right to keep and bear arms! They are way ahead of the curve on air arms.
Airgunnation.com is really good resource for lots of good info.

Not bad shooting Mark, but, as the guy that built it, of course I think it can do better:rolleyes::). Mark's gun is an example of what you can DIY for a reasonable amount of $. His gun has all the god chit in it. It is capable of shooting .22 pellets from 10fpe (11.4 gr pellet @ 600 fps) to 62fpe (33.95 gr pellet @ 915 fps). It can be tuned to shoot any quality pellet very accurately. You can build one yourself for about $500 or so with a factory stock. You still will need glass. You can get a Centerpoint 4-16 x 40 w/AO for ~ $70. So for less than $600 you can have yourself a very accurate airgun. With these guns you only need to pump to 2500 psi (~170 BAR). Very doable with a hand pump. You can get a hand pump from eBay for ~ $60. When you get arms like legs and a chest like a beer keg, you can get a compressor. I weigh about 145#, I can only get a hand pump to about 2700 psi before I can sit on the handle and it won't go down. Water cooled 4500 psi compressors can be had for less than $300. You can get a used 6.8 liter SCBA tank with a Scott CGA347 valve from eBay for about $100. A fill adapter will run you $70 or so. Bottom line is, you can go the PCP route for under $1000.
Now if you want to add some bling to your gun you can put it in a Boyd's stock. There are quite a few scopes available for upgrade also. As has been mentioned, having the capability to focus down to 10 yards is a plus. Athlon, Hawke, Bushnell and Sightron and others all have reasonably priced glass suitable for PCPs
WARNING: This PCP stuff can be way more than a mere rabbit hole, it's more like a warren.
