Go to powders for the 22BR?

Time to get serious about load development for my new 22BR. Krieger HV 8" twist on a Panda action. Main use is ground squirrels out to 400ish yards, then maybe some priarie dogs further out and an occasional F-class match if I ever get time. I've got some 50gr vmax, 55gr vmax, 69gr lapua, and 75gr Amax all moly coated if that matters. What are you goto powders/loads in each of those weights. I've got a pretty good selection of powders on hand, mainly Hogden but a couple others. No VV so don't bother. Not looking for blistering speed but that is a plus if it will shoot. Trying to avoid trying powders out of the optimum burn rate for each weight. Going to take either the 50 or 55 for squirrels, whichever shoots better, with a few heavies for the occasional long shot that may be provided.

I also need to get serious about more load development, but I've got some results for a few loads I've tried in my 22BR.

Since you were talking about 55 gr. bullets, I've gotta say that I scored a bunch of Sierra 55 gr. Blitz 2nds from one of our members here. Not expecting too much from them and my 1/14 barrel, I stuck them over loads of IMR 4895 ranging from 28 gr. to 32 gr. These were in rem. brass that I converted from 7BR to 22BR, and were my fire-form shots. Powder was metered, not weighed. Pretty sloppy technique over-all.

Out of these six groups, all were sub MOA, and the two best, sub .5". Best group was 29 gr., and by the time I got to 32 gr. I was getting sticky bolt lift. That 29 gr. load has since proven to be a solid choice, and that's about as far as I've gotten with those bullets.

I also use a lot of BLC-2 in my BR with good success. Not because I'm a great lover of it, but because I've got a bunch and it meters wonderfully.

Benchmark has been good every time I've used it as well. jd

I use 32.5gr of varget behind a 50gr vmax, pacnor 12t 26" the guy I bought the gun from was using 748 and I didn't like the way it shot, so I worked up this load and if I do my part it shoots in the .3's, which is more than adequate for squirrels, Pdogs and chucks

29.6 gr of H-322 is my go load for 50gr bullets in my 22BR. Just try it. GREAT LOAD !

good stuff so far. I've got 25 rounds down the tube to break in the barrel, cleaning between groups. With the 50gr I used Benchmark which gave 1/2" groups, then Varget for the rest which ended up with 3/8" for the 55 and 69, and .250" for the 75gr. Just picked a load a bit under max book. I shot light to heavy and groups got better as it went. Will find out if that is twist related or just the barrel breaking in.

I've got H322 and use it in my 222. Thought it would be too fast but maybe not for the 50's. Have some 8208 which gave great accuracy in 222/223 but was really slow, but will try that as well.
