The gauge I used was 1.569", the Forster that I looked up to see if these things had much variance was 1.574". SAMMI drawing I saw showed 1.5749" to the datum which is the point on the shoulder measuring .374" dia. The drawing for my reamer showed the .374" point on the shoulder but listed no distance from there to the bolt face. Was the Go gage shorter than the SAAMI minimum or was the NO GO longer than SAAMI maximum ? Or was the measurement somewhere in between? I have Forsters and Mansons and it is too late and I am too tired to go do measurements right now but I can almost guarantee that none of them will measure exactly to SAAMI min/max specs and if I switch between my Sinclair and my Hornady comparators the measurements could change because the comparators may be bored plus or minus a couple of ten thousandths different. None however would be dangerous if used correctly
On that, I am going to go to bed rather than get into a hair-splitting contest
The bottom line is the normal 22-250 brass was longer than the headspace set with the short gauge. My fault for not checking to see that the gauge was correct to start with. The brass told me something wasn't right.
