Gluing in my first receiver

I'm carving a stock for my new BR build that Jim Borden is building for me (http://forum.accurateshooter.com/threads/6-5x47-hv-gun.3998349/page-2#post-37703277).

I'm thinking strongly about gluing this one together but have a few questions, since this will be my first time gluing. This is a drop port Rimrock BRL and my plan is to follow my usual pillar and bed job with Devcon, pop it apart and mill out the trigger and drop port. Reassemble and check function before proceeding.

If I do it this way, I will need a VERY thin bond line because the receiver will be fit very tightly to the bedding. I've read that people use JB Weld, but JB wants a thicker bond line than would be acceptable in this situation. How about polyurethane? I use minwax poly to finish the stock, and it makes a pretty great glue when bonded thin.

How do you recommend gluing up? Do you apply to both the receiver and the bedding, just the bedding, or just the receiver?

Then my last question would be, do you pull it all together with the screws since it's already fully pillar bedded, or do you wrap it with surgical tubing

Thanks!

From my understanding, glueing, is what you are calling bedding? If so, I would never use JB Weld in or around a firearm, even for bedding. I use either Marinetex gray or Pro Bed as bedding compounds. Apply mostly to the stock and "butter" the action and barrel with at least a thin layer. This will prevent any bubbles from being visible when you remove the action. Also do not use the action screw as you would need to push them up through the pillars that will have bedding compound in them and into the action, thus filling the threads and action with your compound. Use guide pins that are in your action before you begin applying the bedding compound. I wrap them with painter's tape so that I can control the thickness applied.

I think you're misunderstanding me. I've successfully pillar bedded actions on numerous occasions. I am considering a benchrest style glued-in action - only disassembled by heat.

All you gotta do is bed it as normal then gouge it up with a dremel, maybe 80%, then put the jb weld in there thin and act like youre bedding it but dont remove it. Keep it clean and watch for runs, have a box of qtips and wd40 ready to clean. Make sure you made enough room to remove your trigger before you glue it- you can check it in the as bedded condition

Sorry i dont have a better pic right now but if you look close at the bedding youll see how much i scuff it up

Thanks, Dusty. That makes sense. Do you pull it all together with the bolts, or do you use straps instead?
I want to feel it hit the bottom so i do it by hand. Youll need to keep the screw holes clean. If you put the screws in there itll be a mess. I tape the barrel up front and right at the front ring so it sits on its own weight
