Glock Pistols

Looking to buy a carry weapon. Anyone on the sight carry a glock 40 cal ? If so what model comes with adjustable sights and how do they stand up to other 40 cal pistols? Any help appreciated , Thanks in advance John

I used to carry a Glock 19 then I bought a SW Sheild 9mm and like it much better that the double stack. For inside the waist carry a single stack is the way to go.

the glock i hard to beat but it had the problem of being large,

the shield is smaller and for pure carry conceal a better choice

J,
I just recently got a G23 gen4. I switched to trijicon night sights. This is my carry gun, and is a great gun to shoot. Did not think I really would like it, other pistols I own are 1911s (competition), Taurus PT 92, and some international shooting .22s so not suitable for carry. too big for me to conceal. the extra backstraps of the gen4 make the gun very comfortable. been practicing with nosler 135 jhps, great accuracy, and mild recoil are great. With that said XDs and Taurus 24/7 and the m&ps are just as nice. But I am glad I finally went Glock though.
cheers,
Doc

Hello JHAdams... I retired from the Houston P.D. 4 years ago. JUST prior to retirement, I went thru a "school" called "Active Shooter".. It was designed for responding officers to enter and neutralize a suspect who is "actively" engaged in shooting up the public>>> as in Columbine... It was the BEST "tactical" school I had ever been to. While there, we used Glock 23's and shot live rounds at each other>>>>live, as in "wax, filled with colored dish soap" at 850f.p.s. It is VERY ACCURATE, flawless in functioning and EASILY concealable. I bought one knowing I was soon to retire and it is now my "off-duty" weapon as it were.. It is "flat" as far as auto's go, ergonomically perfect (at least for me), relatively light weight and small enough to conceal, yet large enough to manage recoil effectively.. There are smaller autos to be sure, however, a 40S&W in a "Baby Glock" or another smaller framed auto, recoil is unmanageable for most people, even for some experienced pistol shooters.

I bought a 23, use it often, and have no problem concealing it whatsoever..

find a place where you can go and try different handguns... the Glock is a great pistol..if you like Glocks. And a lot of people don't like the fit and feel. Also if you get a chance to try a Sig 229, go for it. A good 5 shot revolver is another great option. Good luck to you.

Thanks for all the responces. I now carry a Ruger LCR 357 mag 5 shot wheel gun. It't very light and easy to conceal but recoil is quite heavy because of the light weight and my wife will not shoot it. 110gr jacked hp accuracy is ok up to about 15 feet and from there it't anybody's guess where the bullet is going. Close up work only. The Glock sounds good ,so will go handle a few before deciding on model. John

The g23 is a fine concealment firearm. I carry mine in a cross breed iwb holster. It is plenty concealable and comfortable in that setup. I agree the sub compact g27 can be a handfull for some. The g22 is pushing the envelope for concealed carry.
I wouldn't bother with adjustable sights on one. All I have shoot have been pretty much spot on. My 34 and 35 both have adjustable sights but they are competition guns. Get the tritium fixed sights and roll on.

Everyone I know who bought a G23 or G27 as there first Glock ended up hating Glocks, my advice is to get a G19, carry 147s and the difference in knock down power is nulified by the extra 2 rounds and ease of shooting, or consider a G30S in 45acp, factory Glock plastic sights are terrible, but the aftermarket is full of great sights, I prefer Trijicon night sights for my carry Glock, and my G35 has Warren/Sevigny target sights, fiber optic front, black rear. Try before you buy, go rent pistols, or shoot friends, but under no circumstances buy a XD, the pistol that was renamed to XD was the HS2000, I paid 190 bucks for my HS2000, 6 months later the XD made debut with a great marketing campaign and a 120% price increase, I'm all for a company making $$$, but............

+1

When I was shopping for a conceal/carry I found the Glocks that met the tactical requirements didn't meet the fit requirements. Grip length was waaaay to short for my hand and it was difficult to prevent the gun from twisting in my hand, especially in rapid fire (I have big hands).
I selected the Sig 239 40. It's a little heavier than some and not as easy to conceal but I use a center back inside pants draw holster (I doubt I'll need to do any fast draw) and it works just fine. The total weight doesn't feel any greater than the duty .357 revolver I carried for several decades in LE.

Several years ago, I was looking at Glocks, I look for the comfortable fit and feel, as not everyone's hands are the same size... I bought the G36, I did buy the magazine extension, either way works for me with it being concealed..
