Glasses While Reloading

Ok this is a weird question for me to ask but Ive reached the age I’ve started having to wear reading glasses and I’m finding myself struggling to read the had stamps on some of the smaller brass and tinkering with small objects. I know I can’t be the only blind guy reloading :) so what is the solution you guys have found for this problem. I’ve thought about some type of jeweler magnifying head set but I’m not sold on the idea yet so I thought I’d ask for your solutions. So what are you using?

Cheap drugstore reading glasses for most of the close work. I have the headband magnifier, but only use it for very close detail work needing the magnification. The focal distance is pretty short on the headband magnifier.

I wear trifocals and have to wear them at all times but getting back to your question what about one of those large magnifying glasses on an adjustable arm that sits on your desktop or reloading bench you simply position it where it is in a comfortable place for you and if you need to read something you hold it under the magnifying glass

If you are not wearing safety glass while reloading I'll share with you a very short piece of wisdom: People with only one eye ALWAYS wear safety glasses ANYTIME there is a known hazard. Rant Off.

At Lowe's or HD they have safety glass cheeters in 1.5, 2.0, and 2.5. I wear them all of the time while reloading and when shooting.

I have both eyes and want to keep it that way. The last time they saved my vision was when I was pulling .45 ACP rounds with an impact puller. The screw on end cap broke and let loose and hit me in the safety glasses right over my left eye. The shock was strong enough that I had a bruise on the bridge of my nose from the safety glasses slamming against my face. I may not have lost my eye that day but I surely would have been in the emergency room.

I use the drug store glasses. Also got a magnifying glass for occasional use. I also use my hunting headband light which helps a ton. Not sure what sort of powder scale you use but I have an RCBS 10-10 and got a $10 webcam that I plug into the computer and use it to check the pointer. It was a game changer...sucks when vision starts slipping!!

I’ve also heard of people using a glass prism adjusted to a slight angle where you you do not have to put your face down near your benchtop to read the scale

you say you use the over the counter readers and you still can’t read a headstamp with them on? If that’s true you need to head to the opthamologist for a checkup. You very well could have cataracts

I have one of these jeweler glasses that comes in multiple magnifications. However, the work piece (what ever I am looking at) has to be close to the lenses. In other words, I can not read a book or newspaper with them. It is great for close up inspection.

Here is the link if interested.

I like just about everyone else in this thread have cheap cheaters in every car and pretty much every room etc.... I don't need glasses for long or medium distance yet... But on my reloading table I have a good pair of cheaters made by the eye doctor.... I find them better and clearer , of course there much more expensive around $100 when I got mine.... Don't forget your eyes are not going to get better as we age and I am guilty as well but regular trips to the eye doctor can really help.... It happens very slowly so you don't notice till it's to late.... You might get your eyes checked and have a new prescription done.. I know I sure need to but have been putting it off since covid...

Edit.... Thanks pig buttons for the suggestion on the safety glasses with cheater lenses.... I will go this week and see if I can find some...

I hope I don’t have cataracts at 47 but who knows, I can read the headstamps but it’s somewhat hard. Maybe I just need to go to the doc and get the right reading glasses or a more powerful set. I think the pair I bought were 1.25’s

https://sspeyewear.com/ carries safety glasses in different magnifications a bit dorky looking but these days I don't care, they have tinted which I use for yard work and clear I use at the range, not for shooting but while working on stuff, looking through a scope with them on makes my head swim
