Glass Vial Size?

Is a 1 dram glass vial big enough to hold 40g of powder. I only need to hold 31ish but would like to have a little extra room..........Thank's for your input.

Yes 1 dram will hold up to about 65 grains of h4895. One thing I found out the hard way was depending on your funnel you can have a few kernels of powder get stuck in the threads of your vial so check for that.

You could get hold of Benchrite, they sell plastic test tubes with stoppers that will do the trick, those glass vials are breakable. The plastic tubes with stoppers are cheap too, many of the short range BR shooters carry preweighed charges to matches.

I can handle not breaking the glass but I hear static can screw with the use of the plastic ones. That for me would be a bit crazy making....

I carry the 2 dram vials in a WSM ammo box with a .5" piece of foam in the lid to secure them from rattling around or the lids from coming loose. I'm happy with it all but wish I'd went with the 1 dram vials to save space.

Does anyone know the diameter of the 1 dram vials? Will they fit in the holes of a smaller ammo box so to take up less room?

As far as the funnel I really like what Boyd has going there. I cut off 2" of clear drinking straw and inserted it in the bottom of my 6.5 Saterlee aluminum funnel. Works great!

I found that my bottles were difficult to grasp in a full ammo box that was big enough to accommodate their diameter, so I solved the problem by putting little pieces of foam backer rod under the bottles. I found that the Caseguard 50, with a real hinge, sized for the WSMs was the best fit that I could find. With the spacers in place the bottoms of the caps are even with the top edge of the open case. This raises them up far enough above the dividing partitions that the ones around the one that you are trying to pick up can move out of the way, allowing you to grasp it.

I believe that the case was a odd 6 ppc case that I had accidentally turned the neck to0 thin. I may have had to size it down a bit. It is a close slip fit. I cut it off with a small tubing cutter, and used a chamfer tool to remove the burr on the inside. It is a secure friction fit on the funnel.

My lovely wife the nurse got me 100 out of date blood drawing tubes with rubber stoppers from her office. I'm sure each will hold up to 80 grains of powder and they come in a styrofoam block that holds them all. my funnel fit right inside them. Since they were out of date, they were free!

I ordered the funnels Thursday off Amazon Prime, I received them today. I used the tube cutter on a 220 Russian case sized for a 6PPC. I chamfered the inside of the cut off case and pushed the funnel into the case- friction fit.
It came out really nice and sits into the mouth of the dram bottles very nicely.
