Giraud Trimmer alternative case holders?

It takes about the same amount of time to adjust the cutter head as it does to replace the cutter head.

Wow, I must be doing something *really* wrong. It takes me many tries and several pieces of brass to get the cutter just right. I was tempted to give up and send it in for adjustment.

I also thought I needed a cutter head for every caliber but found that if every case has been expanded uniformly it is fairly easy to use a trimmed case to set the cutter blade. If I’m not happy with the amount of chamfer on one side or the other, I find slight adjustments pretty simple.

A couple of days ago, I used a handheld trimmer and drill to trim 85 30br cases. Then hand chamfered them. Took over two hours. The next morning I called Doug and ordered the 30br cutter and case holder for my Giraud for around a hundred bucks.I would have paid triple if I could have gotten them before I started that task.

Does it really matter if the inside and outside chamfer are equal dimensions? As long as it's chamfered and uniform is my take on it.

There is a thread/video on here where someone tested Giraud and Henderson chamfered va unchamfered. The results were informative though inconclusive.

The Giruad Trimmer is awesome. The best thing I did was to have my gunsmith make some out of barrel blanks. You don't need to have a reamer. The smith will have a Sammi Spec that will work fine. They are very quick and cut your case mouth square. They should cost about $60 a piece from most smiths and you only have to buy them once.

If you worry about differences in wall thickness I'm not at all sure it really matters. For my 2 6mm Creedmoors I use 3 different brands of cases, Hornady-Lapua-Peterson. I get a perfectly satisfactory trim & chamfer with all 3 without a different cutter setting. I also use Hornady die rings on the holder and it is really easy to swap cutter heads between 6mm & .223 I use my Giraud to trim.

Have a picture of what you're talking about? I can't picture what you had made.
