Giraud or Henderson Power Trimmer

I use a Gen3 Henderson for 204, 223, 243, 243AI, 6PPC, 6BR, 6CM, 6ARC, 6GT, 25SST, 6.5-284, 6.5CM, 308, 7PRC, 300PRC and 338LM

Inside neck marring can happing if you push neck bushing a little tight. That can easily be mitigated by either turning down the pilot or reducing the bushing.

I also replaced my pilot with a reamer. I now inside neck ream, trim, chamfer and deburr in one step.
This will true the inside of the neck, remove any doughnut and provides a great finish inside the neck.

I’d be interested in a good shot of the inner neck and chamfer right after being reamed. I tried the Henderson and won’t be going back down that road. Just curious as to what that is doing to your inner necks and your chamfers. In the end, all that matters is that you’re happy. Glad it’s working for you.

I have a G- Tri-way and really like it. It indexes off the shoulder so consistent should bump is helpful.
The only thing I did not like was holding onto the cases as they were trimmed... it was fast, but if one caught an edge, it was a bit of torque onto my fingers...

I got a Henderson, so that I would not be holding the cases anymore. More effort to load into the holder, but less "risk" to my fingers... and it indexes off of the base (I see no practical difference between both methods)... I was worried about the pilot matching the clearances of sized cases (being too tight or too loose) but have had no issues.

Both are very nice and personal preference would dictate which one likes more (and perhaps cost, especially considering multiple calibers...).

Well.... Have to apologize to Henderson Precision and correct my posting about their lack of Gen 1 support.
Per the e-mail I received from them a few months ago I was told that they no longer support the Gen 1. Didn't sit well with me and I believe I posted my "dismay" about the situation...

On a lark I sent them another email a couple days ago about the situation (my need for a .308 Gen 1 case holder) and their reply was to give them a call. I did today. Talked to a fellow there that informed me that they Do have a few parts for the Gen 1 machines..... a .308 case holder being one of them less the nut (similar to a sizing die/seating die nut)

I placed an order for it and should have it in a couple days.

Bottom line was that I probably should have CALLED them in the fist place and not just e-mailed them.

Lesson learned. So... an again an apology to Henderson and to my fellow forum members for sticking my foot in my mouth.

funny I’m looking more and more of the two and saw Henderson doesn’t come with a cutter to begin with which is little irritating.
The more and more I look at the Hornady I see where they implanted what the Henderson lacked the micrometer adjustment

Incorrect, they include one (of your choice of calibers) with your order, at least they did when I purchased mine a little over 2 years ago.

Oh well that’s great to hear. I thought they only included a collet of your choice
This is what I saw on their site
What’s included with your trimmer:

  • Collet (your choice)
  • Extra Drive belt
  • Extra Cutter draw screw
  • Adjustment screws for case length
  • 5/32 Allen wrench
  • -11/16 wrench

Cutter Heads can be purchased seperately(Adjusted or Non-adjusted)

If the Hornady is as well built and cuts as consistently as the Henderson, I would go with it because of the advantages it offers. Same cutter head adjusts to work with different calibers, no belts, and most important, micro adjustable with the simple click of a knob.

There’s nothing to this argument/feature.

I’ve got 8 chamberings I trim for. 8 little stopper bolts, color coded. It takes maybe a minute to set one if you are slow with a wrench. Then I never have touched one. So I don’t know what I’d do with a micrometer? I’d have to watch the Hornady video again maybe I’m missing something?

I’d say get any of the 3 trimmers! It’s such an amazing upgrade from any plain single function trimmer you will be so damn happy it won’t matter. Or get all 3! Then you will truly know.

Henderson heads can adjust to any caliber it just needs a $4 dollar pilot for the caliber, if thats the way you wish to go. Belts are a good thing, it's a safety net like a clutch or a shear pin, keeps stupid people from doing damage. Once the the stops are setup on the Henderson for a cartridge, it's much faster to make a cartridge change over than the micro adjust. And I guarantee the Henderson's build quality is better than Hornandy if it's like any of their other items.

You obviously have not seen how the micro-stop on the Hornady is set up or how the Hornady works. The micro adjust has nothing to do with changing a cartridge over. It is used to adjust the trim length. It is click adjustable .001 per click. You can click in a second or less. You have to use an open face wrench and Allen wrench to adjust trim length on the Henderson. This takes about a minute after you find the correct wrenches and is not at all precise, meaning that you may have to do it several times to get the length right. It’s a pia. Slower and less precise than the Giraud.

You are not guaranteeing anything. You are again speculating about something you have know knowledge of.

You act as though I have never used the Henderson. Below are pictures of my Henderson and Giraud. I had two Girauds and sold one. I have had the Henderson for several years and trimmed thousands of cases with it- both 6mm and 30 cal.

I am not trying to sell any particular trimmer. My post are based on my actual experiences.
