GIANT BOAR VS 6.5 GRENDEL

Have you done an autopsy with a Barnes TSX/TTSX/LRX with 6.5 Grendel ???

I have been planning to use 300 blackout, which does have a big advantage over 6.5 Grendel in that it can use shorter barrels, but I wouldn't mind carrying a 16" barrel, and I could do that with 6.5 Grendel with only a barrel and bolt, I have a couple mags already.

That sure dropped that pig quick.

I took a 6 foot spring bear at about 120 yards with a 175 ELD-X at 120 yards from my 30-06. The bear went about 30 yards before dying a quick death. The shot I had was a quartering away shot and it entered just behind the last rib and was on the hide on the opposite just behind the shoulder blade. The bullet went through a good 24 inches of bear and the bullet retained about 50% of its mass. I thought there would have been more cup core separation.

I usually shoot solid coppers out of my 375 Ruger or 9.3x62 so this was an experiment using less gun and a highly expansive bullet. The bullet worked on a bear that was good-sized the only drawback was no blood trail given no exit, but the bear did not go far and was an easy find. The bear reacted more to the ELD-X than bears that I have shot with solids and that could be due to chance or the fact that the bear absorbed all of the energy of the bullet since it did not leave the bear. I was happy with the performance of the bullet as I got my bear without any problems.

Note this was a spring bear and I probably would not use an ELD-X on a fall bear as I might have to go through 4 inches of fat before I enter the vitals.

Carpesus on you tube has killed well over 1000 hogs with the 6.5 Grendel using various bullets. He has a separate channel for his necropsy stuff. Some bullets that one would think were borderline at best, worked surprisingly well.
As always shot placement is a must. Poor placement will not make the best bullet any good.
Have seen big hogs whacked with 22 RF. Buddy in La. swears by 22 mag.
Several folks using various air gun rigs too.

I’ve shot a bunch of hogs of various sizes with the 260. It worked great (120 gr Nosler BTs). Shot a dozen or so with my 223 and various bullets, but the 223 left something to be desired. Now I pig hunt with the 6.5 Grendel and 123 gr SSTs, and it does a fine job. I think one of them was a bit over 200 pounds. He made it maybe 30 yards. I should have weighed that one. I do like that Grendel AR.

For years my oldest daughter used a 260 with 120 Sierra's on WD, worked great on them running around 2500 fps. Youngest daughter uses 6.5 Grr on them now, same results.
