gian twist barrell

ok going to order thing for a new build. what barrell, standard or gain twist.
havent ever used a gain twist but thought i might try one, what does everyone think about them. whats the pros and cons of it.

krieger makes them! gain twist has been around for a long time. the military uses them in there artillery and naval guns. the idea for shoulder fired weapons was for less force to be enacted onto the bullet during the firing process, also less pressure. the twist starts out about slower then increases towards the muzzle. its not a significant increase.

I've been horsing around with the idea of trying one of these as well, in 6 and 7mm. I would also like to hear from anyone that has had any experience worth sharing.

My main intention is testing higher speeds with less bullet damage, and less pressure spikes due to increased powder charges and temperature changes.

Re: Gian twist barrel

I have a Krieger gain twist on my Lawton 6mm dasher. Shoots good. I cant say it shoots any better than a standard twist though. I bought the barrel right, so here it is. If i hadn't gotten a good deal on one, i wouldnt have waited for one to be made. Nothing wrong with a time tested 4 grove either!! Mine shoots well. Lee

I have one gain twist in stock ready to ship & five coming in my next order from Krieger 8.75" to 8.30" HV contour finish 28" (new blank). I also have some straight 8 twist coming with this order, should be in around January. If I can help let me know.

Thanks,
Mike

Re: Gian twist barrel

mike do you have anything in stock at the moment? I am not 100% sure what i will do yet. I am thinking 6mm but i cant decide to go with a 8.5 or a 10 twist for a BR project. Lee

I got one of Mikes 8.7-8.3 Gain twist barrels. I am waiting for my action to be done and I am having him chamber/ headspace it to 6brx w/ his rec. freebore. I will give a complete range report soon. Mike is good people and has great prices!

The only thing I have left is one Krieger gain twist. I have a new order supposed to arrive in January.

Thanks,
Mike

Mike, if the gain twist barrel is still available I'll take it. Let me know where to send the money and how much. I'll send you a PM as well. Thanks Benjamin

John,

I have been using a Bartlein 6.5mm Gain Twist (or as they call it "Transitional Rifling") for the past year or so. It is as good as or better than my other standard twist barrels. http://www.bartleinbarrels.com/Trifling.htm
