To me that's the irony of the whole thing. The BR and the PPC came along about the same time. The PPC dominated the benchrest game to the point that the BR and it's short variants slowly faded away to insignificance. The BR case hung around doing odd jobs in the varmint world until it became a force to be reckoned with in the long range game. Now the PRS crowd uses it. I would like to know how many more BR cases are manufactured than PPC cases. I would guess several times as many.

Because they finally came to realize what we all knew years ago, that the BR case is efficient as heck, accurate and easy to tune. The hotter rounds take more work to get shooting well, burn more powder for very close to same MV and the wind drift and trajectory difference is next to nothing. Plus more recoil. It just took them longer to figure it out as they all like to be cool

But they came around now so its a good thing for everyone as it means BR brass should be easier to get. A heck, I don't even run one. I have a 6 Grendel. Even smaller then the BR and more efficient!!!!!

In PRS or NRL they are trying to balance recoil/muzzle upset, which helps for self spotting, when shooting off of obstacles, against less wind drift that the hotter 6mm's and 6.5's give. BR based are sacrificing a small amount of wind drift for the below.

Looks like 6mmBRA and 6mmDasher are square within that balance point. Good balance of BC/velocity/accuracy/low ES/barrel and brass life/low powder consumption/low recoil and muzzle upset, which helps when self spotting. Don't see where you miss, then you don't know where to correct to for the next shot.

In my few experiences with a 350 yard KYL rack, the guys with the bigger 6's and 6.5's struggled, we with the 6mm BR, and Dasher excelled. It was hard for them to hit the smallest spinners, not for us. But that's just one example.

Do they not shoot out past 1000 anymore? All i see comments on is short range stuff. Last i discussed all this with customers they had to be ready from 100-1400yds for 1-2moa. Now i see kyl plate racks mostly under 500yds

Hail the 6br and my friend Jim Stekl along with Mike Walker who created the original cartridge for Remington. Jim still shoots a variation of their brainchild and at 80 years old regularly outscores the rest of us at our informal weekly shoots during the warmer months. Not PRS though just a bunch of "old guys" shooting bench rest at 300 yards.

Most of the national matches will go to 1000 and beyond, but most of the shooting is still 4-700 yards. Especially the positional stuff.
A few years ago, 6x47 and 6 CM shooting the 105s in the 3000-3100 fps was the standard to minimize wind drift. Now it's the BR variants in the 2800-2900 range to minimize recoil, spot hits/misses, and it ideal situations, see bullet trace.

Not to mention much better barrel life, brass life, better accuracy, less powder usage, etc. The benefits far outweigh the little you give up in drift/drop.

Here are actual stats from the Feburary 2020 match in college station. This was largely the same course of fire as the NRL championship at the same venue a few months earlier so I'll liberally use it as representitive.
The winner of the match had ~90% impacts and typically the winner of most matches is in the 80-90% range. So.... don't even bother shooting the targets beyond 899 yards and you could still be a winner

There are still some matches that are "field style" and focus on longer engagements, but venues that can hold those matches are harder to come by (and primarily out west) so there are less of them.

For better or worse, there are some very successful, and vocal, people in PRS (who also happen to shoot smaller BR variants) that actively argue that "long range" stages are "luck" and are "unfair" to them versus short range positional stages which are "skill". Match directors are currently catering to that line of thinking, because matches are getting shorter and shorter. You can certainly shoot a 6.5x47, 6.5 creed, or 6 creed and win. But as prior posters mentioned, why optimize for the advantage on 10 shots at 1000+, when 73% of the shots are within 700 yards?

are you going to shoot the vtac this year? seems like lots of guys are moving from 105->109’s or 110’s versus the machine 103’s. but if they shoot like that for more than a hero group - tom might have to turn the machine up to 11!

I have shot Toms Bullets for two years now, getting along with the great. Here is three at 940 yards

Shooters love to jump around, especially whenever the hot new girl arrives in town. PRS/NRL shooters are certainly some of the worst offenders for that.

Doesn't make the 105 or 103 all of a sudden any less effective. While I don't personally know anyone that shoots 103's, the 105's do very well in competition.

For the record, I don’t get to shoot the amount of matches a lot of other shooters do, my schedule won’t allow it. Tom E doesn’t live to far from me and he is a good guy with a awesome range so I tried some of his bullets last year and got along great with them. I feel, this is turning into a thread about how PRs shooters are madonnas. Well that might be the case for a lot but they pay my bills and keep food on my table. I only have one rifle believe it or not ( center fire) and its this BRA I have. I have had it for quite a while, I shoot it because I seems to know the cartridge.
