Getting outshot by your own gun.......

Shot at Williamsport this morning and tried a few things I havent previously before. The guy who beat me for score(Mark Frye) in my relay, had shot both days and brought enough ammo for both days and one shoot off. Low and behold he made it in the shoot off both days. He had mentioned about not having ammo for the shoot off, so I offered my gun as I had loaded ammo, and wanted to see how it shot, and perhaps even in the hands of another possibly more competent shooter.

Doesn't the man not only win the shoot off, but with a 100, 5x, and a 3.375" group. Setting the years high score record, and coming within .043" of the small group for the year.

Now I've been working with this cartridge, rifle, and a few barrels done in it all year, and over 3,000 rounds shot this year. This man figures out my rifle with 7 sighters. Hats off to him. I'm probably going to have to ask him for lessons. Great shooting Mark!

I havent gotten everything worked out with me as the shooter. But Mark certainly pulled through and showed me how it's done. I watched him shoot and did see something he did I'm going to try. Either way it's a hell of a way for him to end the season at Williamsport. I forgot, the reason this is posted here, it's a 6 br-improved that jgs helped me draw up my reamer last fall with some things from a friends dasher reamer I used last year. I've shot one large 4, and a couple of large 5s with my barrels this year. But nothing like he did today!

Thank you. I certainly have quite a bit more confidence in that barrel than I had before! I havent changed anything in the load for a few weeks now and it's been competitive with me pulling the trigger. But I recently started changing the bullets some and yesterday was the test. I guess I'll have to keep doing that, and focus on the trigger puller now.

Congrats to both of you, 2 Winners in this one . A fine rifle,and some excellent shooting . I had a similar thing happen a couple weeks ago,it was my Son beating me with the rifle I tuned...could not have been happier,perfect way to lose.

Had issues with my M1A. Couldn't hit squat out to 400 yards. Couple of "younger" guys came by. Handed the rifle to one of them and told them to "see what it would do for YOU".
One of the "kids" (I'am probably old enough to be his Grandpa) slung that thing up and started pounding steel, 20 for 20 out to 400 yards, with OPEN SIGHTS" and no sight adjustments.
Irons, 20 round mag, no rest, standing, sighted for 100 yards. Just started pulling the trigger. Amazing what young eyes and a steady hand can do.

Lol unfortunately I am the young buck with great eyes in this situation. Im still working on my bench mannerisms. Im just fortunate to of had someone who knew what they were doing, shooting my rifle. Proving to me what I am doing in the loading room is right. Just need to keep working on my form.

Ive had a lot of good help from both members from on here and people I am sure are not. @jghoghunter for example made this beautiful stock for me last year when I shot it as a dasher.

Well I can say that it always feels good to know your rifle is more capable and more accurate than who ever is shooting it.
Many times I have thought my rifle is "off" then find out it was me the whole time. Sounds like you have a great
shooting rifle and loads and some good friends too!!!

Kudu's to you for helping out. I know your feeling. Twice I loaned one of my rifles to Eric Bostrom and both times, he beat me.

I’m new to competition shooting, still a rookie. One thing I’ve realized is “ he who reads the wind the best, shoots the best “. Sure, some guns shoot a little better than others, but like someone said earlier in this thread. It’s the Indian, not the arrow. Sounds like you have a great shooter there, and hope you do well in future competitions.

Just getting my wife into shooting a couple years ago. I built a savage in 223ai for her to shoot. There's a 420yrd group shoot in the winter up here and I took her but wanted to quality how her skills had progressed so I shot right after her with her gun so it would be as close to same conditions as possible.

She shot .1" smaller than me... guess she's out grown my teaching
