Getting a new 223…

I have a HB Stag AR-15 with 1-8 stainless barrel but I really wanted a bolt gun in 223 with a fast twist. Last week I noticed a post on another one of my favorite sites for the rifle I’m getting. It’s a Stevens 200 action with a 30” Shilen 223 1-7 stainless barrel.

I bought lead and some casting stuff from this fellow last year and he lives an hour away from me so I can buy it in person. He was building it for F-class but for health reasons he’s getting out of all shooting. Said it has less than 100 rounds through it.

I’ll set it up for bench shooting, with fusion in my neck I can’t shoot prone anymore. I need to get a stock for it and figure out what scope to put on it…

I've regressed lately to shooting mainly small calibers from bolt rifles. Its a joy to use lower cost components and not see a jug of powder disappear in one loading session.

You may struggle with stocks. Savage stocks don't leave much for the imagination. Hopefully it works out well for you!

I ordered a Boyd’s at-one stock and a trigger guard last night. Also have a scope on the way. Probably about two weeks I’ll be shooting it.

I got the Boyd’s stock yesterday and put the rifle together. Scope isn’t here yet so I mounted a Tasco 6-24x. Yeah, it’s ultra cheap with poor glass but it got me shooting until my Vortex arrives. Actually, I like the 1/8” turret clicks on it and it’s been very dependable in the 20 years I’ve owned it.

Anyways, shot several different loads to sight in and play a little including a Sierra 69gr load with 2000 MR. 1st group was .51 and the second .34. Both 5 shot groups. I think it’s going to do ok for me…. :)

What are your thoughts about that At-One stock?
Thinking about one on a CZ factory offering, but no one had anything very nice to say about it.
I've never had one, but I like the look/idea.
