Gempro 250 problem

Snakepit,

I just received the Gempro-250 yesterday and so far so good, but it is too early to pass judgement. However, I looked up the FX-120i you mentioned, and it does sound great. I read about it on the Old Will Knott website, and there they have the FX scale priced at $701. You said your were able to buy one for 400-CAD, which is about $388. If I may ask, where did you buy it?

Thx!

Nando
I bought mine from Cambridge Environmental Products. One of our forum members had posted this price back in August and Cambridge sold out their inventory, mostly to our forum members. They should have more by now but they were talking about raising the price. I absolutely love my FX-120i. If you need to know how to return your GemPro 250 for repair let me know, after returning 2 of them I have the procedure down.

Snakepit,

My GemPro 250 is working OK, but I did not like the time to settle after a few granules of powder were added, so I went ahead and ordered the FX-120i from Cambridge Environmental. I received it a few days ago, and it is great! It has a lot of features that I have not used yet, but eventually will.

Both the GemPro 250 and the FX-120i agree on the weights (sometimes a difference of 0.02 gn) but the FX-120i settles more quickly. By the way, the cost was $417 including shipping*. I may keep the GemPro 250 as backup or may sell it.

* I just looked at their website and they still list it for $400(C) and in stock, but going fast.

THX!

I got tired of the problems i was having with mine! stuck it in the corner of the reloading room. it seems to happy there with no power to it! I know I am much happier I think it was even effected by the Coriolis of the earth!! now I just use my old standby 10-10 and everyone is happy happy happy!

Nando, I am glad you like your FX-120i. It was a great investment that has really reduced my time and frustration when it comes to powder weighing. As you indicated Cambridge does seem to be the best place to purchase it.

Have been using my GemPro 250 for about 2-months and think it is great. It is so much faster than the beam-balance or the 7-8yr old PACT electronic scale that I was using that my weighing time has been cut substantially. Plus, it is accurate to 0.02gn as opposed to the 0.1gn of the PACT. I'm very pleased and have ask for a second on to put on the shelf as a back-up. While the FX-120i certainly sounds nice, for $140 less can have two GemPro 250s (one for a back-up) and are 'good enough'. I did put the small ferrite noise filter on the power cord.

Probably a good thing on any electronic scale.

There's certainly no doubt that the GemPro is a fine scale. And if Cambridge charged what the other retailers charge for the Fx-120i, the GemPro would seem like an even better value. Another thing in the GemPro's favor is its small footprint. Nobody, as far as I know, has complained about this, but the Fx-120i is about 4x larger than the GemPro. So if your reloading area is limited in space, that's another plus for the GemPro.

Hang on to your purchase receipt and paperwork - if it acts up and won't work properly, follow the return instructions and send it to Arizona. You'll have a brand new one in about ten business days.

No need to call or email.

The small footprint might be nice but the small scale lid and small plastic pan are hard to work with. I tried some larger metal pans I had but then the lid will not close.

why are you closing the lid >>do you have the ac on ??
it works fine with the lid up.....
lid down keeps the dust off when not in use

If you are reloading at the range it may help if you are able to close the lid or as the GemPro manual calls it, the "Wind Cover". With just about any weighing pan other than the small plastic pan it comes with, closing the lid is probably not a option. This is just one of a couple different reasons why I no longer use a GemPro.

if that is the reason you do not use a gempro250...what do you use at the range ??

I followed this advice, taken from this forum about 1 year ago, and it worked for my scales and a friends scales who had similar problems.

Unplug it and turn it upside down and give it a gentle shake, see if a kernal of powder has found its way under the plate.

My 250 has been great for the past 4 years, this week it really lost it's mind and was bouncing all over the place. Got up this AM resigned to struggle with customer service and found this post. Fixed.....

Thanks guys!

I have given up on the Gempro since this posting. I found a complete old Ohaus 10-10 at a gun show for $30. My scores took a big increase just from consistent powder charges.
