Gap Between Barrel and Barrel Channel

I have a 31"x1.25" straight barrel on my F-Class build. What size should the barrel channel be so that the barrel won't touch the channel during recoil?

Anything larger than 1.25"

Well, philosophically perhaps.

General 'rule of thumb' is if you can pass a dollar bill between the barrel and the stock you're good. If it's a wood stock I'd feel better with maybe 0.030" clearance, composite or metal is more stable so maybe less.

I always like to have enough gap to be able to visually check that there is no foreign matter in between the barrel and channel. You never know when someone shooting the next lane over will kick up a large grain of sand that wedges nicely between the channel and barrel without being seen.

I like that gap big enough to toss a small cat through it !!!!!
I will assume that the bigger the gap, the more air will flow through it....
My 1.250 barrels set in a 1.500 gap, just enough for a small cat 'O)

A fellow once asked if the $1.00 bill was the way
to measure proper barrel/stock clearance. I said
I go above and beyond that and use two $100.00
bills. He said,"are the 100s any thicker, I said no,
and he asks why I use 100s. I told him I didnt want
anyone to accuse me of using cheap tools. LDS
