Game cameras?

can anyone recommend a good game camera? I need one to watch my property for trespassers. I bought 3 of the new 20mp cuddybacks last year but everyone had errors new out of the box n needed to be returned to the manufacturer so I just returned them

I have a wildgame innovations i bought at walmart. It was a combo deal with camera, batteries and sd card for around 90 bucks. Ive had it up almost 5 months. Im still on the first batteries and taken over 7000 pictures. The pictures are really clear and the trigger speed is fast enough to catch a fox darting across a small trail. I wish i had ten more of them!

I am surprised to hear that about the Cuddebacks...I have had pretty good luck with the Ambush IR. I will say this about trail cameras...they are designed to last about one year, maybe two but no more and then they puke. The Ambush IR has been on sale lately and running about $100.00. You go into it knowing you are buying a year and use it because it always does catch the game {or trespasser} and you get no white outs or black out pictures. I have tried them all...you can buy more expensive, but they too seem to go about a year or maybe two. Bottom of the heap is Primos. They are all made in China so don't look for too much.

Buy the cheapos at Wally World and put them in as inconspicuous a spot as possible. If you have trespassers and they see one, it'll be gone, then they'll look for more and they'll be gone too. I had a tree stand stolen but was careful to not put my camera near it. Got it before it too disappeared.

He put a cheap-o-camera down by his feeder then hung another one up high using a ladder and had it aimed down at the other. He got a perfect video of them stealing his sd card. Funny thing is they actually brought it back b4 he figured out who they were.
Pick up some of these also. They are a huge help

This is my first year using them. I bought 2 Bushnell Trophy cams on the advice of the local waterways patrolman. I only have them out since August and am finding the biggest problem is the learning curve in how to get the most out of them. A neighboring property owner has had trespass problems in the past and has used them for years. However, even with his long term experience in where to place them and hide them, he recently had an atv rip up his food plot and had cameras and tree stands stolen. The positive side is the culprit missed a camera and the authorities now have a real clear pic of him and his atv. However, it's been a month now and no further leads. There is an atv trail very close-by on the local game lands and this is used by many out-of state riders.
Signs? Yes, you could try signs and they might help. However not always. We have a rifle range on our hunting camp of various ranges. Every access road is gated and kept locked as required by our liability insurance. I have put up 2 dozen "Shooting Range -Keep Out" signs at it's perimeter. Another club member had an incident where atv's crossed the shooting lane as he was setting up. He purchased hi-vis chain and had huge signs made "Shooting Range -IN USE" in bright orange placed at every gate. The very first time the signs were used, we could not believe our eye's as 2 atv's ripped across the shooting lane before we could even set up at the benches. They drive around the gates despite having to drive through thick scrub oak. Needless to say, I am not an atv or 4-wheeler fan.
The trail cams were a result of these incidents.
Also, the signs could work against you. It may attract those who are looking to steal trail cams. Some cams put out a light which is visible in the dark and easy to detect by slowly driving by. No easy answers. Best is to share info with your neighbors and let authorities know about incidents.

I have cameras watching my hunting cabin and I hang them up out of reach with a climbing tree stand. If someone does see them it is doubtful there is much they can do about it. Even if they shoot the thing it would have to hit the SD card for me to not see who they are. Haven't had any problems so far...it seems like the local folks don't play when it comes to trespassing.

You have to stop eating that popcorn on the couch and get out in the woods on surveillance duty! :D

You can purchase Trail Cameras capable of automatically sending photos/videos directly to your smart phone via text message or email.

I know! But after four years of no problem it just silently walked away. I figure they snuck in at night.
Had a local lady call me recently about some trespassers. She had them on camera and subsequently got law enforcement on the case. It resulted in a father and son getting fines of 12 or 1500 bucks for trespassing and baiting. They frown on baiting here.

True, but they cost upwards of $400 each and you may have to pay a fee for the service....and I'm finding trail cams are more prone to Murphy's law than any other piece of hunting equipment. When they work, they are great. And reading trail cam reviews, there is not one brand that stands out unless you shell out $500 , and then supposedly you can read license plates.

If people are trespassing and your gonna use a game camera for surveillance, don't spend alot on them. Chances are they may get stolen by those that ARE trespassing. I bought some Moultrie A5 compact gam cams. They work great and are inexpensive. Think I paid 200.00 for a 4 pack for that exact reason. They did the job. Probably cost around 59.00 ea to purchase. Don't sting as much to get a 50.00 camera stolen as a 200.00 camera.

In the early days I had a Cuddeback film camera. It was ok for it's time. It worked ok, but was hard to program. 2 years ago I called Cuddeback about going through it as it has been on the shelf for about 20years. They chuckled and said if I sent it to them they would send me a Cuddeback Attack Back Flash for half price. It has taken several thousand photos. The only problem that I havbe had was dropping it. I sent it in and they said it bent the sheet metal battery contacts. They were right. I dropped it again and after removing the batteries and bending the contacts, it is working well again. The night IR photos are not what I like.

If you own property or lease a hunting area you will eventually have trouble. We have had two Moultrie 990 cameras for over three years and they have been fantastic. Energizer Lithium batteries and non high speed sd cards. For the best results format the card every time you put it back in the camera. They do not use a light for night photos and still take night images that are clear. Taking a few thousand pictures a month the batteries have lasted up to 9 months.

We have several Moultrie M100 series and they work Ok for wildlife, light is way to bright at night for poachers.

The problem we have is detection distance, 60 feet seems to be about the maximum. I tried some of the cheaper ones and it was either two day to a week battery life or really bright night flash.

Good Luck!
