gain twist barrels

hi
i will be changing the barrel on my 308 police and was thinking about ordering a gain twist i was wondering if anyone has had good results with them and if there was any real world advantages?what gain twist rate would you recemend to shoot the 155 scenars in a 308? thanks ::)

I have not had a gain twist in 308 yet but I have a couple in other calibers and they have all shot very well. If I were you I would wind up at the muzzle with a 1:12" twist shooting the 155 Scenars. While a lot of shooters are using 1:13" twists for the 155 bullets, the Scenars (I am told) need to be a little tighter on the twist to be safe. I would go 1:13" at the breech to 1:12" at the muzzle. This would also open the door to shoot something like the Sierra 175's as well.

i was told by someone that the gain twist should be 12 to 11 for the 155scenars what do you think?could this be to much? :-\

i know that an 11" twist is recommended for the 175s when shooting a 24" barrel. so an 11" would shoot the 155s fine

I haven't tried the gain in the 308 yet but i have in the 6ppc exiting at 13 1/4 Just make sure you specify the length so the gain will be at the proper length

decisions decisions i am un sure which way to go 12 to 11 or a 13 to 12 twist.the only bullet weight i will be shooting will be the 155g.out of a 28 inch barrel for fclass, out to a 1000.i am affraid the 12 to 11 wont stabilizes the 155 scenars?? ??? ???

You won't need to go to an 11" twist to stabilize the 155 Scenars. Ending at a 12" twist is plenty. You won't be unstable at an 11" twist, it's just a tighter twist than you need.
