Fun with my Teslong Bore scope.

I have always wondered, after trimming my cases to the specs listed in the books, How close the cases actually fit my chamber?

So I pulled out my Teslong bore scope, inserted a sized and trimmed case, into the chamber of a 223 rifle.

Not only did it give me an idea of my trim length being right. It also showed the inside of my Ultrasonic cleaned case.
The case was once fired, and resized. Interesting to see how clean the case was, and there were no problems .

I will start looking at my cases with the bore scope, as well as my rifles, from now on.
Fun !

You can also “probe” your female friends and see some interesting details.

Just out of curiosity, what kind of clearance did you see with a trimmed case in your chamber? jd
Not able to gauge it , but appeared to be enough .

I started with a case that was longer than the Max, on my Wilson case gauge, and there was still room .
I need to sort through for a longer necked piece and check again.

I've been on a mission lately to determine just how long chamber necks are on everything I load for. Some of them are crazy long. One I'm working with right now (6mm Rem) the neck is .040" longer than "trim length".

On a lot of cases, that added length might allow you to seat your chosen bullet out past the neck/shoulder junction, or closer to the lands if desired. If nothing else it allows higher powder capacity when possible. jd

Keep in mind the taper in the chamber at the end of the case neck. A sized case having a smaller neck diameter will fit into that taper, where a loaded round or fired case will not.

Depending on how clean the chamber is, you may or may not see that taper. May not have as much room as it appears.

They make case inserts to ck your chamber case length.you can buy them on ebay.made by Sinclair.

Yeah, but I haven't ever pre-planned and had one when I needed it. I've been making these little doo-dads. Takes about five minutes, and the sacrifice of one case and bullet.(preferably a long one)

I've gotta caution anyone who uses these and lets their cases grow.
DO NOT SHARE YOUR AMMO WITH ANYONE WHO HASN'T VERIFIED THEIR CHAMBER LENGTH!!
