Front Rests and Picatinny Rails

I’m currently using a bipod and wondering if using a front rest for BR, would I need to remove the picatinny rail? I’m assuming there would be interference keeping the rail on. Never owned a front rest and thinking about purchasing one but hate to remove the rail.

You can always get a bag rider for it.

Bag rider is the way to go. I’m partial to the LJW Precision flavor, but there are a lot of good options available at many price points.

As others have said a bag rider would be the way to go if you don't want to remove the rail and shoot of a mechanical front rest.

Question is this for just shooting at the range or are you going to compete in an organized BR competition such as ARA? if for competition check the rules.

good luck!

Great options and learning a lot on the different shooting methods.

Now I need to decide if a mechanical front rest would increase my accuracy. When using my CZ 457 MTR with a bipod, it likes forward pressure and not free recoil. Would this still be the case using a mechanical front rest using a bag rider?

Most bipod equipped rifles like to have the bipod loaded. With a rest you will need to see what the rifle likes. My MTR doesn’t like free recoil.

You'll have to try both out. Two different animals.
Most running a bag rider and mechanical front rest, use none or very little
pressure, so free recoil.
You are basically running a BR rifle at this point.
You want the rifle to recoil ( as little as it is ) just straight backwards in the front and rear rest.
That's the whole idea with that setup.

FWIW...for my SEB mini, I have the front bag that is sufficiently "dipped" in the center which allows me to leave my forearm connector (for attachment to bipod) in place while using the front bag with the front rest, unhindered. Also, SEB has 4-piece front bags that will have about a 1-inch space between the two bottom bags that will also allow the forearm rail to not be in contact with the bottom bags.

Are you shooting Competition with the rifle?
