Front rest for a BR style XP-100

I have an XP-100 with a McMillan F Class stock that was modified for pistol use. 3in wide fore end.

What would be a good front rest to use with this setup? I probably wouldn’t want to spend more than $500 and I don’t believe a joystick style would work. Thanks! IMG_4434.jpegIMG_4440.jpeg

I would think any joystick would work nicely. For your cost requirement,
look at a Shade Tree for your current rest.....If it were me, I'd be making
A longer and wider rear slide.

Can you elaborate on what you mean by rear slide?

That stock was made by McMillan for BR pistol shooting and not a modification, I have a couple and they work great. For a front rest I use a shade tree top on a old Bald Eagle cast iron base.
While this pistol has a different stock it shows the first rest, also the rear bag is a SEB bag with a 3" spacing and the bottom of the grip has a 3" bag rider

Was that bag rider a mod that is glued or screwed?

I’ve been looking at the Sinclair all purpose comp front rest and the Sinclair Benchrest competition rest and I can’t really tell the difference between the two. Does anyone happen to know the difference?

Hunting ground hogs is different than shooting prairie dogs.

Prairie dogs being colony critters, a rotating table would be ideal. You would have many opportunities for shooting at one location before moving on to another spot. You could use a joy stick with a rear bag or a conventional type front rest without the joystick. The same rest could also be used for steel shoots.

Ground hogs on the other hand are not colony critters and you may only see 1-3 at a particular spot. You would also have to relocate more often to locate another ground hog. The table would become burdensome to move around all the time.

I shoot a lot of PD and got away from the table so many people use. I use only a tripod now. Setup in less than a minute and very portable. You can use it standing or sitting.

At one time Bog made a PSR rest on a tripod. It was very popular, but sadly it is no longer in production. I made my own PSR similar to the Bog style. It is rock solid to shoot from. I also went from an aluminum tripod to an inverted 2 section tripod. I'm able to change out the front support when needed to support what ever I'm shooting.

If you're interested in shooting steel at distances, check out Wyshot. Ernie has been putting this on for many years now and it is very popular.

This is my prairie dog setup I've used for several years now and is very accurate.
