Run a Tubb's lapping kit through it then do your load work up. It will extend the throat a little which isn't a bad thing either.

The marks are created by the jobber length Harbor Freight drill bit savage uses to ream the barrels.
Shocking that they're still there after pulling a button through. Imagine how bad they look before rifling!

New never consumer fired 12 F/TR barrel from 2010. This barrel never shot well and measured .302". Phelps Dodge acquired it for the minig rights after I gave up trying to make it shoot.

Every Savage barrel I've looked down is chattered and tool marked.
Some a little better and some worse then the picture above.

Tell your friend he's off the hook, and that Savage is why !.!.!
