Here's a complete Freeland’s scope stand with the tripod base. The stand is in phenomenal condition and dates from before Champion Shooter Supply, which owned Freeland’s, went out of business. Freeland’s Sports LLC is once again in business and parts and accessories are available.
The stand uses the 5/8” rods and has the previous generation pivot Zoom Head (large knob) and accommodates scopes with ¼” x 20 female thread. It's also easy to use quick attach plates like Manfrottos.
Included is a unique device for stabilizing the scope stand in the offhand position. With a head unit attached on three 21” segments you have a cantilever design that is sensitive to wind and small bumps on the eyepiece. You get harmonic vibration which makes seeing 22 holes at 50 to 100 yards difficult. Freeland’s made available what's called a harmonic absorber.
This device includes a six-inch rod section and tubing with a heavy annulus plate on the bottom (see photo). When used properly, this damps out vibrations and improve image stability. However, to use this correctly the stand needs to be plumb and thus the use of custom-made XY level attached to the shaft. After using the leveling knobs on the base to get the stand plumb add the absorber, like a top hat, and you're good to go. The one included here is the only one I've ever seen.
Includes:
- tripod base with one 21" steel section and carry knob,
- two additional 5/8" 21" steel sections,
- pivot Zoom Head, complete,
- Creedmoor brand carry bag,
- harmonic absorber, complete,
- rod-attach XY level
- storage case and bag for absorber and level.
