My barrel is coming with a .230/.235 free bore which will work fine with the 162 ELD-M but not near long enough for the 180 ELD-M. Should work just fine with SMKs and Bergers. I do not have a clue why Hornadys have such a long bearing surface. I had to take the throat out past .300 to shoot the 140/147s in my 6.5X47L.I am not sure what you found but my 0.235 freebore is about perfect.
What twist rate do you have and what FPS did they blow up on? How do you know they blew upI have shot the 180 ELDM with the 0.235 freebore. It might not be ideal but it will work. Mine shot them very well; until they started blowing up! lol
I’d like to try them with an 8.5 or 9.0 twist at sub 2800 FPS. Don’t need the extra speed with that BC.I have shot the 180 ELDM with the 0.235 freebore. It might not be ideal but it will work. Mine shot them very well; until they started blowing up! lol
My 9 twist would not stabilize them and my 8.5 twist shot them very well until about 2,000 rounds. Then I think it was the fire cracking that pushed them beyond their limits. They sure shot well though! I shot my first 20 shot clean at 1k with them in my tactical rifle.I’d like to try them with an 8.5 or 9.0 twist at sub 2800 FPS. Don’t need the extra speed with that BC.
I shot 2,000 of them before they started blowing up. Then I lost 6 in one match x-10-10-x-10-10-.....-no impact-no impact. Say what?? You could actually see them blow up. It was a little gray puff at around the 800 yard line. I actually found pieces of eldm jackets around the 800 yard line after blow ups. What twist rate do you have and what FPS did they blow up on?
