Found a gem in the rough. Emerald

My story starts with wanting to buy another McMillan stock. I’ve had plenty of rifles and plenty of stocks. I’ve only ever had one high end / high dollar stock. $800 for a stock is a way lot of $ to me. See pic #1. If your a regular on this site you’ve probably seen my McMillan Gamewarden with molded in color in coyote ambush. I love it. I’ve had the Gamewarden a couple years now and it’s paid off. LOL. So I took the plunge and bought an in-stock ready for sale A6-7. Painted tan. See pic #2. I didn’t really care about the color because I planned to use this strictly as a range / club match gun. You probably think I’m nuts because who would take a brand new expensive stock and spray paint it. We’ll I did!

Emerald continued: So this is how it came out. See pic #1. I’m a way big rookie when it comes to painting and even with several coats and several coats of clear I found the paint would rub right off the textured bumps. See pic #2. So back to the drawing board. See pic #3.

I had no idea what the stock would look like bare. I expected ugly fiberglass. Then I saw something. See pic#1. Here I’ll point out that I think molded in color is the best way to go as is super durable. Problem with getting a molded in color takes a long long time to get. It took almost 6 months to get my Gamewarden. So is kept sanding. See pic#2. And sanding! See pic #3

Isn’t that just nuts!!! Yes it has a few blems in it. The blue is some kind of fill in a bubble. Hard to believe McMillan would paint over such a GEM. Now I need another stock to paint. LOL. Cheers Mike

I can see the Bat signal in the air already, and it says ……. “BC’z”
Are you using a 2K paint? Sanding lightly between coats? Did you use a primer / etch / or adhesion promoter? Lastly, I think you may need to finish with a rattle can of 2K gloss automotive clear coat.
