Fouling a Barrel with Cheaper Bullets?

35050.jpg
Clean your barrel as you always do. Then treat it with this. or Rem .oil.
Been doing it for years with Palma Rifles never a trouble with 1st shots .

Interesting... I’ve used Tetra Gun for years as you describe. But my cold bore shot is consistently about .5 MOA low... 2nd onward are fine.

Just got a new .260 Ackley barrel. I had not thought of using the fouling rounds to fire form new cases. Good idea, that.

These three shots on an extra clean rifle went into a little knot at 100 yards despite an extreme spread of 50 fps between the first and last shots. How does that happen?
That load probably shoots flatter than a 308. A 308 with a 50 fps velocity spread will string bullets 1/10th inch vertically at 100 yards if all else is perfect. That's the bullet drop difference at 100.

Or it was pure luck.

Shoot more such groups then evaluate the results. Use ballistics software to see what your load's difference is.

So a truth is stranger than fiction follow up on this. I loaded up 3 fouler rounds in my 6BR using 100 Gr Sierra FB hunting bullets I had on hand. I just picked a middle load out of the Sierra manual (27 Gr Varget) and seated the bullets to about .020 off the lands. These three shots on an extra clean rifle went into a little knot at 100 yards despite an extreme spread of 50 fps between the first and last shots. How does that happen?

Same conditions make your rifle shoot pretty good

Im not a competition shooter I'm shooting 1/2" groups at 200 yards that is the max. distance for ranges in my area . Shooting a Rem 700 308 Cal. Once I found the best load combination I never use a foul shot , no fliers 3 ten shot groups if it's out of the group it's me . Foul shots to me is just wear on the barrel , I start off shooting with a clean dry barrel every time . Only shooting 30 rounds every range trip with a great group of guys every Sunday weather permitting 50 degrees an above , can't take the cold . Will add to the excuses of not grouping well.

Larger bullet makers make their own and most custom bullet mfrs have gotten away from j4 due to price increases and inconsistent supply about 4-5yrs ago. That is when sierra and hines tactical stepped up and started supplying jackets.

Yes, and thank our lucky stars for that. The smaller caliber jackets were unobtanium so bad it was enough to piss off even the loyal to company buyers.

My hat is off to you. Ten shots into 1/2" at 200 yards is some shooting.

Keep your hat on . They weren't always like that , when trying to get tighter groups I would make little changes , making my groups look like I was shooting a shotgun . Now I stick with this setting until the next 8 pound jug of powder an lot of bullets , an it starts all over again .
